Incorrect highways marked on Google Maps

There are some situations with Google Maps that do tend to piss me off sometimes. For one, google map maker gives you basically no freedom. As a roadgeek it gets annoying, cause you can't make an edit finalized into the actual maps.google.com until it goes through a whole approval process. For example, I tried to make this segment of US 209 http://goo.gl/maps/VYAAG a National Highway instead of an Expressway, as there is a signalized intersection right there. The response given is simply along the lines of 'this does not meet our guidelines, undo the edit'

Probably paid by Apple to come here and post that.

Can't remember the identities of those involved, but once upon a time, someone in M.T.R. accused someone else of being paid by the Heritage Foundation to post there.

After my fairly short experience with Map Maker, I learned that Google follows the non-Northeastern US in having expressways called freeways, and expressways being pretty much the same thing, but with the occasional intersection (i.e. non-freeway US 15 from Frederick, MD to Harrisburg, PA, except for around Dillsburg) but no driveways.

So yeah, it's technically correct. The dumb part is that Google has no separate line color for freeways and expressways. :banghead:
Mileage-based exit numbering implies the existence of mileage-cringe exit numbering.

I agree, same with any other major road, as you can have US Route 1 outside of Raleigh be colored yellow be looking like this http://goo.gl/maps/AC3gq, while you can also have a road like this http://goo.gl/maps/dGtBg sharing the same color.

Roadsguy

The yellow is Minor Artery, Major Artery, or National Highway.

Not as important a distinction as freeway/not-freeway is.

I'm aware, and although the example I posted is a rather big distinction as well, you do have a point. Which leads me to wonder how and why there are random examples of this in some cities: http://goo.gl/maps/2rFl3

Someone makes an error, someone else corrects it and misses a piece. Happens in OSM too, but there are no hoops to jump through before correcting it.

Well... I'm only 12

The process goes like this:

1) Make a statement
2) Give a reason (or reasons) to back up your statement,
3) Include a real-life example (or examples) with some factual proof.

Make sure it's all wrapped up in one post, and that's called communicating via a message board on the Internet.

If you can't do that, at least be witty and/or ironic about it (don't take lessons form me in that respect). Ta da!

Also: Children under age 13 should have their parents monitoring their usage. It's common sense from a parenting perspective.

Thanks for the advice. Oh and Steve, big fan. Now back on topic

It appears that not only U.S. 27 is now back in Michigan after 10 years, it appears it's now again on it's pre-I-69 alignment:

I love how they simultaneously have it labeled as US 27 and Old US 27.

It looks like I've discovered another U.S. 27 in Michigan, this time in Alma: http://goo.gl/maps/VTbPl

Could this be a temporary hurrah for people who missed U.S. 27?

Speaking of US 66, is it making a comeback?

Quote from: 707 on July 16, 2012, 08:31:58 PM
I guess this is considered "incorrect", but it's funny at the same time. US 66 is shown as an active highway along many areas of I-40, but the shields do not appear on actual segments of old US 66, nor does US 66 officially exist anymore. I'm guessing Google did this to let people know where US 66 was if one wants to take a road trip.

I already mentionned it in the past, Google maps corrected it once but they "recomissioned" again US-66.

US 66 has been reinstated!

roadman65

So US 66 is a double mistake?  You are right it is funny, considering that part of the old Mother Road is far off from being a business route to an interstate it follows like in the other states.  Also, I believe this is the first part of US 66 to be truncated as old 1970 maps show it ending in Pasedena.

Apparently there is a Business I-35E in Pearsall, Texas–but, to be fair, I-35E is only 266 miles away.   :eyebrow:

That's TXDOT's method of identifying their business routes. Here's 35-H (and SH 46-C):
