pure unmitigated awesomeness is what I call it.  Here's an error that at least gets the shield shape right.  No state name, alas (unless that I is for Illinois!)

nothing like a California-style US 71 cutout in the great state of Iowa.  Only example of that style I've ever seen for that state.

Those are OLD: probably 50's/60's Vintage. Used to see that style along a lot of the Interstates before cut-out styles phased out in the early 70's.

Then there's the (as I call it) "skinny neck" version
