I inquired with a local Mariposa County history page on Facebook about the history of what is now Old Toll Road.  The conversation ended up swing towards the general history of early Public Highways and Toll Roads in the county.  Mariposa County being one of the original counties had a bunch of toll franchises.  Turns out there is a fairly substantial paper trail by Mariposa County for years 1856-1905:

Regarding Old Toll Road turns out it was part of the Zinkman Toll Road.  Said corridor was constructed in 1856 by David Cunningham as a cutoff of the earlier Burckhalter Toll Road.  The Cunningham Toll Road would come under the ownership of Andrew Zinkman and was declared a public highway in 1899.  The Zinkman Toll Road was the main road into Mariposa until early Legislative Route Number 18 was completed to Mariposa in 1918.
