Bridges that look just too big

I wonder why they made this bridge so big when it only has one lane.

This one is understandable because the far right lane used to be an exit lane before the Neuse River bridge was built.

These question me. Why do they use an extra platform when it's just a braided ramp rather than just building a simple bridge?

Most likely so they can widen it to two lanes if it's ever warranted in the future.

My understanding is that why do they use an extra platform that looks like an airport blablabla for a braided ramp? US-52 in Rural Hill has it too.
