QuoteNDOT Announces the Release of the Metro Area Travel Improvement Study

February 13, 2020 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Today, the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) announced the release of the Metro Area Travel Improvement Study (MTIS) which provides a planning road map for improvements to the freeway system in the Omaha Metro Area over the next 20-30 years.

"The development Nebraska has experienced over the last 10 years is a testament to the value the state puts on growing the economy through smart investments,"  said NDOT Director Kyle Schneweis.  "This report helps refine the vision for the needs of the state's largest transportation network.  Publishing it doesn't change our commitment to preserving and modernizing the state's 10,000 miles of highway to build and maintain a resilient infrastructure system to support a growing Nebraska."

MTIS was a six year collaborative study done by the NDOT and the Omaha-Council Bluffs Metropolitan Area Planning Agency (MAPA).  The MTIS provides a vision of what the transportation network in the Omaha metro area will need for sustainable transportation growth.  The plan provides recommendations for maintenance to existing roadways while also providing for additional improvements.  NDOT will continue to work closely with key partners in the metro area to develop and refine the plan.  Design work will begin on the first identified needs to support anticipated construction in 2025.

An executive summary as well as the phase 3 full report can be found at https://dot.nebraska.gov/projects/publications/.
