Title: Huge Chinese interchange

Some observations: guardrail painting is bright (and high maintenance), shoulders seem to be omitted on connections with more than one lane, and some of the concrete looks weathered even though the interchange is brand-new (maybe some of the structures are pre-existing)

That's just a five way interchange, not eight like the article suggests.

The location, for those who are interested: https://www.google.com/maps/@29.5885817,106.6019336,799m/data=!3m1!1e3

There is another interchange with 5 branches, near Shanghai: https://www.google.com/maps/@31.120409,121.3844863,1573m/data=!3m1!1e3

I think the weathered look of concrete is due to climate. Chongqing has a humid subtropical climate. New infrastructure looks like that in India, Indonesia and southeast Asia as well. The summers are hot with high precipitation. The weather is so damp and cloudy that Chongqing has very little sunshine (1000 hours annually, that's worse than high-latitude oceanic climates).

Kind of like how dark and weathered the concrete is on the freeways in Honolulu, HI USA, especially the big viaducts on I-H3.

That is the largest interchange I've seen outside of the U.S.

Wow this is the most complex interchange outside of the USA.

Which US interchanges are more complicated?   This may be the most complex in the world.

The East LA Interchange might be more complicated, and it's the busiest interchange in the world.

The I-95/295/278/678 interchange in the Bronx, NY looks pretty complicated.

Plenty of complex/large interchanges outside of the US...here are just a few examples that I knew of straight away:

One from New Zealand: https://goo.gl/vnyPVE

One from Australia (although Australia has quite a large set of complex interchanges): https://goo.gl/TEocYt &

One from the UK (aka Spaghetti Jct (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spaghetti_Junction)): https://goo.gl/mZM7fL
