Here are some New Jersey maps:

http://mapmaker.rutgers.edu/MAPS.html

very interesting to see how county boundaries have changed in the 1800s. Was it really necessary to split up Essex County to create Union County?
Opinions represent mine and no other organization that I am associated with.

Or Mercer. Why Mercer?

Want to see the "map published herewith" of the SC state highway system in 1921? Sorry, here's all you get:

The David Rumsey Map Collection seems to have added quite a few of the California maps:

http://www.davidrumsey.com/luna/servlet/view/search?QuickSearchA=QuickSearchA&q=caltrans&sort=Pub_List_No_InitialSort%2CPub_List_No_InitialSort%2CPub_Date%2CPub_Date&search=Search

(don't recall seeing these on that site before)

At least every other year from 1918 to 1946, every year from 1948 to 1967 (during the major freeway building era), then every few years from 1969 to 1990.

Plus 2005 (the last map on the second search results page).

That's pretty awesome; the early ones are probably from the biennial reports.

Found Indiana. They had a (send) help sign too: http://fedora.dlib.indiana.edu:8080/fedora/get/iudl:1255049/LARGE (yes, you can view it at a better zoom).

Oh shit, found old FDOT county maps: http://www.dot.state.fl.us/surveyingandmapping/documentsandpubs/aerial_years.pdf

Full list of links from that PDF (including recent maps): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:NE2/countymaps
If you're downloading, just avoid anything from the 21st century and you'll get all the scans.

Thanks for the FDOT county map links. The older maps have revision dates where routes were introduced or modified.

The Palm Beach county maps provide some written proof of old childhood observations: PGA Blvd (SR 786) numbered SR 74; 45th St (N P B) numbered SR 702, etc.
My first SF/horror short story collection is available: "Young Man, Open Your Winter Eye"

http://ufdc.ufl.edu/mapfl is a better source but some counties are almost entirely missing. Palm Beach is there.

When I click on a link on this document, nothing happens. Is it working for y'all?

Probably depends on your PDF reader and settings (I hate links in PDFs). If it's not working, use this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:NE2/countymaps

Sweet thanks for posting the link! I was using the UF map site and this gives more years than what they have and the option to view the PDF all at once instead of an in-browser viewer.

I recently finished updating all of the Santa Rosa County and Hernando County pages on the main site. Was working on Escambia, and now I see that SSR 293 went further south, over what is now part of SR 292 (before Sorrento Road was built). Looking at Hernando, SR 50 did go all the way out to the coast on what is now CR 550, SSR 420 was replaced with CR 578, etc.

UF has jpeg2000 downloads, e.g. http://ufdcimages.uflib.ufl.edu/UF/00/01/55/69/00001/UF00015569.jp2
I don't know if this is linked anywhere, but it's a simple change from the image URL on http://ufdc.ufl.edu/UF00015569/00001/

Looking at the 1972 Lake Co...the south bypass of Leesburg was SR 468 and SR 33 instead of 44. Didn't know that!
So..NE2..does this mean this wasn't originally supposed to be SR 44, or were these temp designations?

The Georgia link doesn't work anymore, and it looks like GDOT may have removed their historic maps from their website...?

They're still there, but the URL has changed. Current and historic maps can be found here: http://www.dot.ga.gov/informationcenter/maps/Pages/default.aspx

I like that 1950 New Jersey Turnpike map showing the proposed extension north of US 46 leading to the New York State Thruway around Exit 10 (US 9W). I always thought that interchange design had more to it than merely adjusting to the mountain terrain of the Nyacks.

Thank you all.
This listing of resources and the website in general are going to be very helpful for this newbie.

Current areas of focus: Coachella Valley, CA early 1900s and (shudder) The Atlantic and Pacific Highway in the West. Slim pickens.

Please let there be something from New York.

While we're at it, I would love to find some maps of New York that showed NY 25 on Fishers Island, and NY 114A on Shelter Island.

I've posted my Louisiana highway maps online. The only years that I have are 1930, 1937, 1940 Census, 1955, and 1958. 1955 shows the final year of highway renumbering. 1944 and 1988 are being uploaded this week, with the census maps being added as I can find time to sit down and download then upload. The census maps are in sections, so you will have to pan from one map to another map by closing and opening files.
