NB US23 Update.  NB US-23 will remain closed for the weekend. MDOT has made the determination that the Warren Rd bridge suffered significant damage in Friday's incident. The span over the NB lanes will be removed in an emergency demolition project. MDOT is coordinating efforts for this weekend in preparation to reopen NB US-23 before Monday.  Please take into account this closure for your weekend travels.

WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI -- An interstate near Ann Arbor will be partially closed for the weekend after a construction vehicle crashed into it.

At about 4:34 p.m. Feb. 11, troopers from the Michigan State Police Brighton Post responded to a traffic crash on northbound U.S.-23 near the Warren Road overpass in Ann Arbor Township, police said.

A vehicle towing a trailer with a backhoe struck the overpass due to being over-height, police said. Concrete from the impact struck and severely damaged two other vehicles.

A single person was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

The overpass was seriously damaged in the crash, and the Michigan Department of Transportation is currently inspecting the site.

Northbound U.S.-23 at Warren Road will remain closed over the weekend as MDOT continues to evaluate the damage to the overpass, police said.

Many of the overpasses on US-23 are in the 14' range, with some (like the one that was hit) under 14' clearance. It's not very forgiving to over-height loads.
