Interesting you have all of those but not the TN part.

Oops, I forgot the Memphis part. Fixed it.

While I'm at it...should add the I-69s (I think MS is the only one I've completed).

State clinches noted. "All" means I've clinched the entire route. A dash means I have either never been on the route, or don't have anything clinched in a particular state. I stole this list from Scott.

Clinches (not that many compared to a lot of you; I haven't been trying):

Most of mine were not as a result of trying. I-74 only the part west of Champaign was a deliberate clinching trip. I-8 we were already going from I-5 to Tuscon, I just detoured a little bit to include the small part west of I-5.

Indiana: counties 100%, highways 100%
Illinois: counties 100%, highways 61%
Michigan: counties 100%, highways 56%
Wisconsin: counties 86%, highways 23%

1995hoo

Bold states denote clinched state for that route; bold route number denotes clinched route; non-bold denotes travelled but not clinched.

I don't count certain routes that were not Interstates when I travelled them (I-14, I-99 in New York, the fake I-87 in North Carolina).

Kind of curious, how does the general community count how I-35 gets clinched? For the route in both TX and MN, is it excluding both branches (with a gap in route), one branch of your choice, the branch with exit number continuation, or both branches? Personally, I prefer mainline with the branch with the exit number continuation (35E in both cases, it seems like), but I'm not sure if that's wrong or not.

Travel Mapping counts I-35 as three separate segments: South of Dallas, between Dallas and the Twin Cities, and north of the Twin Cities. Each I-35E and I-35W are logged separately.

For my own clinching purposes, though, I regard it in the same way you do. I have clinched the independent portions of I-35 in MN as well as I-35E, so I consider I-35 in MN clinched. I would say you should clinch either I-35E or I-35W to count the entire route as clinched, but I don't have an issue as to which one, given that it forms a continuous route either way.

I consider I-35, I-35E (TX), I-35E (MN), I-35W (TX), and I-35W (MN) to be five distinct Interstates.

Thus, for Minnesota:  I have clinched I-35E and I-35W, but I have not clinched I-35.

Likewise, for Texas:  I have clinched I-35W, but I have not clinched I-35E or I-35 (for the latter, I'm missing a mere mile or two in Laredo).

My personal view is that either branch is acceptable, since the numbering itself doesn't imply either branch is the primary one, and it still works on surface-level branched routes that don't have obvious continuity through exit or milepost numbering. That's how I can claim my clinch of OK-3 (since I have all of 3W but I'm missing a few chunks of 3E).

Travel Mapping treats the branched areas as gaps in the main route, with 35E and 35W acting basically as 3dis.

I'd personally say all 4 branches and all mainline to count as a full clinch. I'm missing all of TX 35W, the south half of TX 35 E, and everything south of the "southern southern" merge other than from Austin to San Antonio. So, I won't call mine a full clinch until I have all of that.

I'm in this last camp as well. In my view, the E and W branches are both equally part of I-35, and so to clinch the route, you need them both.

I agree with the bolded statement, but arrive at a different conclusion: They're both equally part of the route, so it doesn't matter which branch you clinch as long as you fully clinch one or the other (forming a continuous route).

Technically, you don't need to travel either route to count the independent portion as clinched (and show as such in Travel Mapping), but I do think you should clinch one branch before calling I-35 fully clinched in that state.
