In the last few years, I've been keeping track of which routes I've "clinched" as I'm sure many of you have.
So, the other night, I was wide awake and went for a drive, realizing that I had clinched 98 PA Routes, and just needed two more. Of course, I had knocked out all the ones near me and have completed several counties worth, so it wasn't just a pop around the corner.
Drove the new section of PA 441 which bypasses downtown Columbia. I had previously clinched PA 441 many years ago (and several times over) but wanted to "recertify" and see the new road. Instead of going straight down 3rd St, intersecting PA 462, then turning west and then south on Front St, it now goes on a new alignment before US 30, under US 30, and then down along Front St under PA 462 (you have to use another street to connect to PA 462) and continues straight.
For the 99th route, I chose PA 999. Seemed fitting and was one of the closer ones. It also set me up nicely to clinch PA 324 as the 100th and the last piece of US 222 I needed (between Quarryville and Wakefield). This also means I only need a few minor state routes and can add Lancaster County as complete soon. PA 999 is a pretty simple route -- somewhat straight as far as PA routes go -- not much to say about it, good or bad. PA 324 is curvy and a fun drive, but at night sometimes I found myself a little surprised coming into a corner and had to slow down a good bit. It ends in sort of an odd place... it junctions a road along the river and then turns south for a few hundred yards, abruptly ending and becoming a quadrant route.
So, I've finally clinched 100 PA routes. Here's to the next hundred. (I'm not including Interstate or US Routes in this total, although I have clinched many of those as well within the state)
