Hey all,

Finally finished uploading all of my road and non-road photos from my trip up to Albany this past Thanksgiving. The road photos (which also include shots of I-87 and I-278 in New York City) can be seen here...

Some of the non-road photos can be seen in some of the sets on my Flickr...

Exellent photos. Interesting mix of traffic signal setups. The ones with the reflective backplates do look kinda European, but good. It looks like the rural area of NY State are rather scenic, but in the city everything is old, nasty and ugly.

Thanks! The reflective backplates are definitely something different and it'll take some getting used to (which won't be very hard, as they are neat). To me, they look very Canadian.

And yeah, rural New York, especially in the Adirondacks, is very scenic and has some very pretty drives. And I can agree that much of the city has fallen victim to urban decay, but that's what makes it such an interesting place.

Question: How many of the old "L" poles are still in use for sign mounting as opposed to the U-channel or the newer box version poles?

There are quite a few that are still around in the area. I'd say at least half of the signs around the capital region are still mounted on those "L" posts.

next time i am in NY, i may have to stop by a NYDOT depot and see if they have any L-posts and Z-bars on the scrap pile so i could properly mount some of my NY signs if i wished

See if you can pick me up some New York signs while you're at it! I've been looking for one of those state speed limit 55 signs for quite a while...

Wait, it's all Ohio? Always has been.
