Last December, I saw the afterthought I-795 signs at the US 117/264 exit of I-95 in NC.  This past week, I didn't see any of them along I-95. Why did they vanish?

I know they were there going SB on I-95 back in JUly.  Were you going NB instead of SB on I-95?

Both ways. If on I-95 NB the I-795 signs were posted before reaching the 1/2-mile BGS for US 117/264, I may have missed them.  There was no mention of I-795 from that 1/2-mile BGS onward. And I saw no mention of I-795 on I-95 SB at all. 

At the time, it had me wondering if I had remembered correctly which interchange to expect to see I-795 at.

For those following the changes to I-795:

Exit numbers and milemarkers based on I-795 are now posted on I-795 from Goldsboro to US 264 in Wilson.

I-795 still follows US 264 exit numbers/mile markers on their multiplex. 

All US 117 shields have been removed from the road; however, the overheads on I-795 at the US 301 and US 264 interchanges still refer to US 117.

I did not go onto I-95 so I can not answer if anything has been changed, fixed, or fouled up further there.

Remember all of the I-795 paving issues?  Well, the repave job earned NCDOT and S.T. Wooten the National Asphalt Pavement Association's 2011 Sheldon G. Hayes Award for excellence in asphalt pavement construction.  There are signs on I-795 that commemorates this award.  I'm going to try and grab a photo this week.

US 64 has been proposed as an Interstate from Raleigh to Rocky Mount as I 495 or as part of an Interstate 44 from Raleigh to Norfolk. There have been proposals for US 264 to get its own I x95 number from Zebulon to Greenville. The original I 795 designation was originally proposed to end at this I x95. When North Carolina decided to expedite the I 795 process, it was first rejected because it didn't connect to the Interstate system. The state extended I 795 along US 264 and resubmitted the application.

I am familiar with the I-495 proposal.  If US-64 is built to interstate highway standards, it should not be difficult to get legislation passed.

US-264 could use an I-x95 designation from its split from I-795 in Wilson County to Greenville.  Maybe I-795 could change routes to reflect its concurrency with US-264 to Greenville.  Whatever route remaining to Goldsboro could become I-195, I-395, I-595 or I-995.
