What is this?  Are they talking about the grade separation on US 412 at AR 59 in Siloam Springs?  Or are they actually going to build a RR overpass on AR 43?

Looking now, if I'm correct, the proposed will cross a railroad and also Country Club Road.  If the state is paying anything for this, we have big problems.

AHTD?

It is a new overpass on AR 43, and they're building it in exchange for the city taking ownership for the segment of AR 43 between AR 59 and AR 264 (apparently including the new bridge).

QuoteWHEREAS, IN BENTON COUNTY, IN SILOAM SPRINGS, Job 090406 is scheduled to replace the existing at-grade crossing at Highway 43 and the Kansas City Southern Railroad with an overpass structure; and

WHEREAS, the City of Siloam Springs and the Department have agreed to a partnering arrangement that includes the City accepting ownership of a portion of Highway 43 upon completion of this improvement; and

WHEREAS, the City of Siloam Springs has passed City Ordinance No. 14-06, that agrees to accept all responsibility, including ownership for the portion of Highway 43, Section 0, beginning at the junction with Highway 59 and continuing west to the junction with Highway 264, in accordance with Arkansas Code Annotated § 27-65-109.

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS ORDERED that upon completion of the improvement and upon official notification by the Deputy Director and Chief Engineer, the following changes are hereby made to fhe State Highway System as shown on the attached sketch.

  • The portion of Highway 43, Section 0, beginning at the junction with Highway 59 and continuing west to the junction with Highway 264 in the City of Siloam Springs is hereby removed from the State Highway System as shown on the attached sketch.
I can't find the sketch it's talking about, but this seems like a fairly straightforward change.

We are always saying AHTD should turn back roads to cities. Do we really not expect this to happen without some type of quid pro quo?

Honestly it is safety improvements anyway. That intersection really sucks, with the high school and everything. Traffic backs up bad. Not sure if you are familiar with the area during school

The city is doing design I believe. Saves 10-15% on a consultant

On the AHTD website, there are no links.  http://arkansashighways.com/public_meetings/2015/090406/090406.aspx
