This is VDOT in action today.

"You know, you never have a guaranteed spot until you have a spot guaranteed."
—Olaf Kolzig, as quoted in the Washington Times on March 28, 2003,
commenting on the Capitals clinching a playoff spot.

"That sounded stupid, didn't it?"
—Kolzig, to the same reporter a few seconds later.

This message started popping up all over VMSes in the San Francisco Bay Area. I wonder how many variations of this message will I see eventually?

I think this is a very useful link for creating our own fictional VMSes.

Clinched, minus I-93 (I'm missing a few miles and my file is incorrect)

Traveled, plus US 13, 44, and 50, and several state routes

I will be in Burlington VT for the eclipse.

Good for you to not take things at face value! You can view all the VMSes in California here, although most messages are informal rather than silly (configure message signs in the options): http://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/

I already see this as a meme template
Are spurs of spurs of spurs of loops of spurs of loops a thing? ;)

I think kphoger's reply was a joke. (I often take things too seriously, too.)

It even supports foreign characters :sombrero::
Supporter of the construction of several running gags, including I-366 with a speed limit of 85 mph (137 km/h) and the Hypotenuse.

Please note that I may mention "invalid" FM channels, i.e. ending in an even number or down to 87.5. These are valid in Europe.

Nah.  It's really just a PSA telling people not to let their boxers show.

Sighted on a board on I-95 north in Providence yesterday:

Jail Is
No Picnic
Drive Sober

But the truly absurd part was that the flashing beacons normally used only to highlight critical traffic messages were activated as well.

I saw this on Reddit a couple days ago:

I see that there's a similar message a few posts ago, and that this isn't the first message from the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in this thread.

^I'm more intrigued by the use of white colored text (rather than the typical yellow-orange used on many VMSs).

Probably a full-color VMS.  Although often the font color used is traditional VMS Orange.
