Where is SR-99E in Red Bluff, other than 57 years in the past?

I wonder if that was a typo. There is a road whose name is "State Highway 99W" on the southern outskirts (the old road) -- no longer a state highway, but it still has the name.

There are plenty of those; county routes or just regular streets with old U.S. highway numbers as a name.

A bit of a nitpick, sorry:  Although the article about the US 50 road diet at Tahoe is on SFGate, the project area being discussed is entirely in Nevada.

I saw that when I saved the article, but I thought enough folks here go through Tahoe that they would find it of interest.

OK.  I'm on that segment of US 50 almost every day because my neighborhood has a single exit, onto that road at a T-intersection where the side street is controlled by a stop sign.

I don't find issues with entering the road from that intersection particularly difficult; there's usually no more than about a 20-second wait except perhaps on summer weekends, though I'd mention that speeders on that stretch of road are an issue.  I know there are some other T-intersections where the entry is more challenging due to hills, curves and prevailing traffic speed.  The biggest issue I see, by far, is the roadside parking near the Zephyr Cove beach, with pedestrians (not always totally sober as they are leaving the beach in the afternoon) all over the place with no sidewalks present.  The most important element of the plan would be banning the roadside parallel parking and providing a better parking setup in that location, probably with lots on the east side of the highway, and as mentioned in one of the graphics, "Consider pedestrian tunnels under US 50 at Zephyr Cove Resort".

"Convert US 50/Lake Parkway intersection into a roundabout" is part of the debate about the "Loop Road" realignment of US 50 around the back of the Harrah's and Bally's casino resorts.  The Loop Road would be a bi-state project, but the controversy over it on the California side has been dragging on for years, probably decades now, with no resolution in sight.
