I've long suspected that US 101 originally followed Main Street through the City of Ventura but the only map that I could find that suggested this was possible was the 1935 DOH Map of Ventura County.

It seems that the CHPW has confirmed US 101 followed Main Street until the early 1930s.

I'd always assumed it was Main; it's the only routing that was continuous with the old highway leaving town. Here's a 1934 ACSC map:

It’s interesting to see how swiftly a lot of highways in major cities shifted once the DOH could start to maintain them beginning in 1933.  What got me interested in digging back into Ventura was the major shift that was recently highlighted with US 101 during the early post 1933 era.  Aside from a couple bigger cities on the 1930 DOH map there wasn’t much reliable information to go on before the CHPWs popped back up.
