Yes this is a section of I-80 that has to respond to both Sacramento and Bay Area commuter traffic at the same time.

Here are some of the Original shots for now with the widening project as of October 2022.

Some of the new median barriers are being made to make the new express lanes from Fairfield to Vacaville.

Nice! I’ll be using these when I pass through it should make the experience much better. For some reason this stretch seems to take the longest in regards to perception of time when driving from Tahoe to the bay or vice versa. Hopefully this project will help with that.

I'd agree that this will be a nice improvement, although could you California folks please upgrade I-80 from the 1960s 6 lanes to 8 lanes from the Yolo Causeway to Vacaville as well.  I would greatly appreciate that.  Tolled express lanes would be fine.

I feel like the inordinate number of lane drops and additions between the causeway and I-505 is part of the reason for all of that congestion, especially in the area immediately around CA-113. A consistent profile, even with fewer lanes, would probably move smoother vs the constant merging and people dropping into the right lane to blast past stopped traffic.

I hope i-80 from Dixon, Davis all the way to West Sacramento can widen their lanes the same way. I-80 Solano County has to respond to both Sacramento and Bay area commuters at the same time. Sure there was a time when I-80 in Solano County was considered being in the Middle of Nowhere at one point but now housing expenses in San Francisco and Sacramento became an issue and we had to step up and provide housing in the region in the same way Tracy and Modesto provides housing for San Jose Commuters.

I drove through the work zone on Friday the 11th. Talk about a mess. Both directions were backed up for several miles. If that's anything like what normal traffic is in that area, these upgrades can't come soon enough.

Here is the study showing how NorCal is becoming a Megaregion that's merging together such as North San Joaquin, Greater Sacramento and Bay Area are merging together. In this case Solano County is viewed as the outer suburbs of both Sacramento and Bay Area at the Same time.
