Yes this is a section of I-80 that has to respond to both Sacramento and Bay Area commuter traffic at the same time.

Here are some of the Original shots for now with the widening project as of October 2022.

Some of the new median barriers are being made to make the new express lanes from Fairfield to Vacaville.

Nice! I’ll be using these when I pass through it should make the experience much better. For some reason this stretch seems to take the longest in regards to perception of time when driving from Tahoe to the bay or vice versa. Hopefully this project will help with that.

I'd agree that this will be a nice improvement, although could you California folks please upgrade I-80 from the 1960s 6 lanes to 8 lanes from the Yolo Causeway to Vacaville as well.  I would greatly appreciate that.  Tolled express lanes would be fine.

I feel like the inordinate number of lane drops and additions between the causeway and I-505 is part of the reason for all of that congestion, especially in the area immediately around CA-113. A consistent profile, even with fewer lanes, would probably move smoother vs the constant merging and people dropping into the right lane to blast past stopped traffic.

I hope i-80 from Dixon, Davis all the way to West Sacramento can widen their lanes the same way. I-80 Solano County has to respond to both Sacramento and Bay area commuters at the same time. Sure there was a time when I-80 in Solano County was considered being in the Middle of Nowhere at one point but now housing expenses in San Francisco and Sacramento became an issue and we had to step up and provide housing in the region in the same way Tracy and Modesto provides housing for San Jose Commuters.

I drove through the work zone on Friday the 11th. Talk about a mess. Both directions were backed up for several miles. If that's anything like what normal traffic is in that area, these upgrades can't come soon enough.

Here is the study showing how NorCal is becoming a Megaregion that's merging together such as North San Joaquin, Greater Sacramento and Bay Area are merging together. In this case Solano County is viewed as the outer suburbs of both Sacramento and Bay Area at the Same time.

I know recently they replaced shrubs on the median for Concrete Median Barriers on I-80 to make way for the express lanes between Fairfield and Vacaville. Yes this is the merging point between Sacramento area and Bay Area traffic coming together at this location.

https://www.sfgate.com/travel/article/bay-area-interstate-80-traffic-explainer-17786974.php

Here is a Column on SF Gate explaining traffic jams on I-80 and how there are a factor on both Sacramento and Bay Area Commuters.
Quote
What was once a traffic issue snarling peak commuting hours has become a customary inconvenience that’s been further exacerbated by a population shakeup in recent years as more people moved eastward from San Francisco. As previously reported, the top in-state destination for people leaving the Bay Area was Sacramento.
“During regular M-F weekday commute hours, the morning and evening commutes along I-80 in Solano County seem to be increasing,”  Jacala said. “That’s because more people seem to be buying more affordable homes in places like Vallejo, Fairfield, Vacaville and Dixon. Then commuting to either the Bay Area or Sacramento.”

The trend is supported by available traffic data. Transportation analytics firm Inrix shared numbers with SFGATE focused on I-80 between I-680 and Interstate 505 for weekdays from 2019 to 2022. The firm found that eastbound evening traffic has worsened since 2019, adding a 5% increase in travel time.

Was up there recently and it's still kind of messy on weekdays, but the weekend was smooth sailing.

Here is the shot by Full Length Interstates. The Full Video is about I-505 but at the start
it shows the construction on I-80 in Vacaville.

Here is a related topic but it involves the rumored "New City" in Solano County, CA whose investment group is identified as Flannery and Associates.

They're fooling themselves if they think with no infrastructure that they can make a "thing" out there.

Also a new city would have to go through multiple reviews like earthquake risks, wildfire risks, flood risk, how it affects the Sacramento Delta and Suisun Bay are all factors here along with risk to national security given this is what sparked the investigation. Note this new city would require CA-113, CA-84, CA-160 and CA-12 to meet freeway standards if this is really going to exist the way it's being hyped here.
This is all hype but it needs to be backed with a state and federal review.
