A-70 updates

Construction for the A-70 eastern extension in Saguenay city began in 2012. A couple of structure were erected

This first phase of extension should connect chemin de la Ligne-Bagot (rue Jacques-Barsalou), just north of Bagotville air force base to the actual A-70.

A-70 is by far the most isolated autoroute of the network, the closest freeway being over 125 kilometres east.

Did not know A-70 was due to be updated. What is the ultimate destination of the freeway?

Ugh.  I thought I'd taken care of the out-of-the-way A-70 for good, when I clinched it in 2011 on my way back from Labrador.  While it's good that Quebec is a happening place for freeway/autoroute construction, keeping up with it is even more of a whack-a-mole game than with new Interstates in the U.S.

Long term planned eastern terminus. Avenue du Port gives access to the industrial area of La Baie. A-70 should end in a trumpet.
Long term planned western terminus, halfway between Saint-Bruno and Alma on R-169.

As long as the 138 bridge reopens I can at least drive some new roads - but I'm definitely waiting for 70 to be completed in its entirety before wandering back up that way. (Probably 85 will be done by then as well.) They're about 40 years behind us in terms of freeway completion...
