AARoads.com forum should have a paid version to continue online. Paid version would remove ads and do other things.

I mentioned something similar here:

He only removes half the ads for the paid version. At least Poiponen13 would remove them all (not that it matters when they don't exist!) :-D

If you want to mail Alex a check, I'm sure he'd cash it. You won't get anything from this, but I'm guessing he would appreciate it.

I don't believe that P13 was asking about the other forum, but who really knows. Also remember that whole thing with that traffic signal guy and forum? Don't remember much about it but it happened.

Bringing up some random forum that nobody else here is on doesn't make sense anyway. I don't know why he would do that unless he was trying to ask why they had ads on their forum. Especially since we don't, if you're registered.

That's always been such a weird rule to me. Like obviously the mods wouldn't be able to help about another forum, but maybe some random user knows more about the forum. This forum already doesn't have way too many rules in general, and that rule has always seemed weird to me.

I think the point of contention isn't so much about "hey, this is a neat (other) website", but more of "nuggetblob.xyzdomain.bip banned me for no reason, and I'm here to whine about it" that isn't necessary. Or if a user wants to complain about a random non-road site which ripped them off on their purchase of nutritional supplements, or a random stranger flaked on a visit to the local hypermart parking lot buy their widget and blivet collection. Or that some social media site Changed Everything And Now It Sucks post which has no useful content for others.

Admittedly, I kind of forget that's a rule.

Scott5114

It was one of the ones Alex imported from another forum. I'm guessing it was a bigger problem on whatever forum it was from originally. I think it was a weather forum, a topic which had several active forums at the time, so there was a greater chance someone would be complaining or asking questions about another forum.

AARoads has always been the only roadgeek site that has a traditional forum format, so it's less relevant here. It has come up from time to time though (such as now).
