It's cold. Only 56°F and raining, thanks to the Pineapple Express which continues to soak much of California. Not complaining though. We still need the rain and snow to replenish the reservoirs. Don't know if it's helping Lakes Mead and Powell or, more importantly for the river, the Colorado snowpack.

Per California Department of Water Resources... not yet as of this writing:

And, as of this writing, per Drought Monitor, 27.1% is in a D3+ "Extreme Drought" state, and 71.15% is in a D2+ "Severe Drought" state.

A good chunk of the water supply for California comes from the Sierra Nevada snow pack.

The best weather conditions in America is found right here in South Texas (or northern Mexico if you must call us that).  While the rest of the country is either busy shoveling snow (in the north) or can't drive because of the snow (in "The South" whatever the heck that means), we are enjoying the beach (or golf course, or football field, or tennis courts, or any other form of outdoor activity).  Don't envy us -- join us!

Brownsville:      87 high (+15); 69 low (+16)
Corpus Christi:  84 high (+16); 66 low (+15)
Laredo:            85 high (+18); 67 low (+19)
McAllen:           88 high (+16); 68 low (+16)
We're so far south that we're not even considered "The South"

Another lovely January day in the neighborhood.  You can see what people who don't have garages here have to deal with, not only scraping the snow off your car but also digging away the snow the plow has come along and pushed around it.

I wish we could get some of that snow out east. Ontario has been depressing overcast and rain (especially heavy on Wednesday) and the snow is long gone. My local hill (Chicopee) didn't even bother opening this Christmas because they knew the snow would disappear before New Years. :-(

My ski trip to Vermont next week isn't look much better either, with only 38/128 trails open at Stowe.

Agree to disagree, those highs look uncomfortably hot even in summer, let alone winter! :)

No. The best conditions right now are the 56 and rain that Skuluth reported in California. 88 is horrendous, can't even imagine how hot it is down there in the summer!

I was in West Palm Beach a few days ago. When it was 82, I was sweating but not too uncomfortable. I understand Texas has lower humidity than Florida, and "+16" in your post means it's unusually warm, but I still would absolutely not want to live in South Texas. Or Florida, for that matter.

These temperatures are average for April and October.....way below normal for summer and way above normal for winter.

Depends on which part of Texas.  South Texas is just like Florida, if anything, the Gulf coast of Texas often has higher dew points than Florida.  Anything west of the I-35 corridor is a lot less humid than the Gulf Coast.

Got in some beach time yesterday here in Oki. Low 70s, little humid. But very sunny. Small sunburn on the legs, oops.

We've had another 1 foot + of snow since sunrise today.  The temperature has been steady at 30°F so this is the easier, lighter type of snow to move.  The piles are getting so high that a lot of it has to be tossed upward, though.  It's a good cardio workout as long as you're careful to take some breaks.  There's an 80+ year old man a few doors down from me who was out there working on his walkways...just take it easy, dude.

The bomb cyclone got me this morning about 2 miles into an 8.5 mile run.  The rain stopped with in minutes of getting home and hasn't started up again all day.  It's been partly cloudy, a high of 62F and actually pretty pleasant out.

jgb191

More of the same conditions here....still remaining considerably above normal for this time of the year.

Brownsville:     88 high (+16); 67 low (+14)
Corpus Christi: 87 high (+19); 64 low (+13)
Laredo:           90 high (+22); 63 low (+15)
McAllen:          92 high (+19); 66 low (+14)

Heat Index ranging anywhere from near 90 degrees to as high as 96 degrees.  As previously mentioned, these conditions are normal for April and October, but not January.

Above average temps the last few days and we actually had full sunshine yesterday, made it to 49! Back to the clouds today, probably one of the most cloudiest period in recent memory.
The local weatherman, trust me I can be 99.9% right!

Finally, the first real snow of the season! I can't ever remember being this deep into the season before getting a significant snowfall (especially odd considering Buffalo has been hammered twice already).

It's snowing again, just about on time.  It's a good thing there are plenty of NFL playoff games this weekend.
