The search engine was totally unresponsive. Thought it was my pc, but now I'm seeing others experiencing something.

The site search engine hasn't been totally unresponsive for me...  But I can hit [Search], get up, heat up a mug of water in the microwave for tea, come back, and it's still spinning its wheels.  I can also hit [Search], duplicate the tab, go to the main forum list, click on a thread (which still takes a while to load), and that thread will pop up before the search is done searching in the original tab.

Earlier, I tried to use the forum search feature to see if a thread idea I had/have wasn't taken. The first search was a little slow, but it worked. The second one didn't work at all.

I'm baffled as to what might be going on here, because I'm having none of these problems (other than search being slow, which probably has something to do with the databases we had to rebuild after the Tulsa copyright incident.)

Discord seems to say that it was the Russians, not the New Urbanists, at fault. It was simply an overload; they didn't hack anything.

I say the slow forum issues were the start of the closing of the forum, and that it has something to do with that.

All of the problems are fixed for me now.

I suspect the slowdown problems were the beginning of what led up to Ionos locking the MySQL Database for the forum yesterday morning. I received an email then referencing that the database "has been locked because the workload and number of connections are too high. It will no longer respond to call requests."

They also added "When programming, please also make sure that there is not too much load on the database servers."

It has been quite awhile since the server was last hacked, probably over ten years at this point. This is something different targeting the database. I also searched the file folders for any new files added recently, and found only one that was updated as recently at 7:30 ET. So nothing there.

I mentioned to tech support that this database is for an SMF going back 15 years now and never had a problem like this before. I was hoping to get some idea of what we should be looking for as far as the overwhelming number of call requests, but they didn't suggest anything.

So if the forum slows way down again (which it might given all I did was have them unlock the database), then we'll need to switch it to maintenance mode and figure something out.

If it overloads, is "viewable by logged-in only" an option?

I can attempt to take a look under the hood if you like. I'm a manager of database administrators. I don't know MySQL, but I know enough to Google my way through.

So much for the option to email someone from your profile on SMF. Unless the email associated with your account is not up to date.
Can take this discussion to a PM. Otherwise after two hours I have made zero headway on how to deal with this flood attack.

It seems to be getting this way again - even got a "connection problems" error once.  Time for maintenance mode or logged-in only?

I may have found the source of the problem, or at least part of the source. There is an error with depreciated code associated with Load.php, one of the core SMF files, that is triggering up to 25 times every 2 minutes. Looking at the logs, 1,000 errors over a two hour period this afternoon alone.

That feature is currently broken due to a recent update on the backend.  Hopefully that will be back when we go to the 2.1.x branch.

I've had twice today a message that read "time out on session"when I tried to post in a thread.
Every day is a winding road, you just got to get used to it.

I've had no connection issues at all since the upgrade. No slow forum. No server connection issues. No false positive 15-second cooldown. No parked domain page instead of a forum.

Searching in a thread is still broken.

Update: The "parked domain" issue has not been fixed, although it's not really a problem since reloading the page after a few seconds always fixes it.

I've noticed some slowness creep in today along with occasional page load fails.  That said, this isn't a forum issue, but rather a site-wide issue, since the main home page does it too.
