Title: Something that I found in Google Earth near Topeka, KS.
Post by: Route66Fan on December 11, 2022, 07:36:54 AM
When I was looking at an old alignment of US 24, Northeast of Topeka, KS, I found what appears to be a partially buried vehicle along the West Bank of Soldier Creek, between a railroad track & US 24. Is that a vehicle? What do you all think happened here?

It looks like the location is here: https://www.google.com/maps/@39.0903416,-95.6292708,159m/data=!3m1!1e3

And I can't see anything from Google Earth or Street View from US-24, so I can't tell you for sure if it's a car or a trick of the light or something like that, but given that there's a little road heading in that direction from the northwest, I would guess that a car came down that road and got stuck in the mud and then abandoned.

That does seem likely.

Speaking of abandoned cars at the bottom of bridges, I did notice one at the Graffiti Bridge on Wards Ferry Road when I viewed it on Google.  Turns out that I was seeing an actual vehicle and there has been actually several below the bridge:
