Fire Station Underneath I-95 in Baltimore

Do any of you know anything about the history of the fire station at the corner of Holabird Ave & Newkirk Street, in Southeast Baltimore, directly underneath I-95? I'm trying to find some articles about it, but the name of the last unit to use it is unclear. I wonder why it was saved from the wrecking ball.

Two theories/possibilities about why it "survived the wrecking ball":

- it was still in use when I-95 was built.
- it's on the National Register of Historic Places.

I never recall it being discussed when the Fort McHenry Tunnel and its I-95 approaches were being studied and discussed in the late 1970's and early 1980's. 

Looks like (from the NO TRESPASSING sign) it is now owned by the state, probably MdTA (cannot read the fine print).
