No surprise what is number 1. However I'm surprised Florida made it over Delaware.

Then again these are not the only two sites reporting, but the most common Google or Quora can come up with.

We paid $48.10 yesterday afternoon ($2.29 a mile) to drive the length of the I-66 express lanes outside the Beltway (21 miles) at around 3:00 PM. Worked out, though. I had the cruise control set at 70 mph the entire way while there were at least four major standstills out in the general-purpose lanes.

You obviously haven't heard of France and its troll rates. I've even discovered one extreme instance in which exiting and re-entering at literally every interchange was slighty over half the rate of just driving through the whole section.
Supporter of the construction of several running gags, including I-366 with a speed limit of 85 mph (137 km/h) and the Hypotenuse.

Please note that I may mention "invalid" FM channels, i.e. ending in an even number or down to 87.5. These are valid in Europe.

Not sure what it costs now, but the Chicago Skyway HAS to be the most expensive toll road per mile in the USA! Which is why I now avoid it like the plague whenever I visit the Windy City.

$7.20 seems like a worthwhile investment to avoid a really frustrating part of I-94.  Too bad the tollbooth McDonald's isn't around anymore, it was extremely handy.

That's assuming you're entering or exiting somewhere within the City of Chicago. If you're getting on at I-65 or I-94, that's another $6.30 on the Indiana side.

Obviously people have different preferences, but to me that particular stretch isn't worth it unless I made a mistake with my timing.

Most of my use from the Skyway came during weekdays when my dad lived in downtown Chicago.  Everyone dog piles on the free Expressways which made I-94 a pain the ass.  Usually I'd find a way over to Lake Shore Drive upon getting in the city.

A similar distance on PA Turnpike (which people also complain about the toll rates for) is like, $5-6 USD if you have an EZ-Pass. Unless there's a disastrous accident on QEW/401, or I'm for some reason in a big hurry, no chance I'll be using the 407.

To make it worse, getting a transponder also has fees, and is not a good option for occasional visitors. And it only saves you the camera fee, no additional discounts. In contrast, EZ-Pass is very friendly to out of state or occasional users, most of them don't have fees and you can use them in a lot of places. So I have one even though I live in Idaho, and can take advantage of the discounted rates, at least in states that don't discriminate where you get your transponder from, like PA.

You could argue the 407 acts more like an express lane for 401, or something, and demands toll rates more like an express lane than a standalone toll road. But that doesn't fly if you're in an area like Vaughan near the 407, not so near the 401. And the only alternative is a busy stroad.

The other toll road I think twice before traveling on is E-470 in Colorado, but the 407 ETR is definitely worse. 4, 7, 0, and E is a bad combination for toll roads I guess.

And to make matters worse, many of the prominent Ontario roadgeeks seem to get weirdly defensive about it and insist that all this is perfectly fine that that changing it to price gouge less would be bad.

I don't know how the E-470 toll road in Denver ranks with other turnpikes in terms of cost per mile, but it definitely seems expensive. It's $13 just from I-25 on the South side of Denver up to the airport on the East side. The cost drops to $8.15 if you have one of their unique ExpressToll RFID tags. But $8.15 is still pricey for that short of a drive. I don't know if they've already pushed it thru, but they're working on RFID tag interoperability with the KS-OK-TX block.

I'm pretty sure Oklahoma has some of the lowest toll rates in the US (if you have a PikePass or compatible tag). The PlatePay rates are kind of ridiculous, but still not nearly as high per mile as E-470.
