Road You've Crossed the Most Times Without Actually Going On It?

So I was looking at a map of Tulsa lately, and it occurred to me that despite me living a mere 3 miles from it for much of the past year, I have never been on OK 364 (the Creek Turnpike). However, I noticed something different, too. Apparently I have crossed the Creek Turnpike in 12 places (10 if you only count OK 364), which is kinda crazy considering I've never been on it. Anyone else have any crazier examples of crossing (but not actually going on) a certain route?

For the purposes of this, I count a "crossing" as any road that either goes over, under, or intersects with the route in question. In my example, I count that I crossed the Creek Turnpike on I-44 (at both termini of the Creek Turnpike), despite the fact that I-44 does not technically cross the main lanes of the turnpike. However, functionally, crossing at a terminus of the route in question is still pretty much the same as a "normal crossing," in that you get a similar opportunity to join the route in question, so I'm counting it.

For me it has to be Spanish A-3. I've crossed it in 6 places including by rail :sombrero:, but never been on it.

FYI I only recognize this as a five way tie. I consider state routes in different states to be different routes even if they bear the same number and are continuation of each other. Thus, you have only crossed MA 83 and MA 138 in two different locations each, the third claimed ones are for CT 83 and CT 138 respectively, which from my viewpoint are different routes.

Mine is I-384 in Connecticut. I've been through East Hartford numerous times and still haven't traveled it.

I've crossed over I-294 on Saint Charles Road to get to I-290 many, many, many times, but only rarely have I been on I-294 under Saint Charles Road, since, whether from the north or the south, I'd get back on I-290 to exit. That said, I've been on I-294 countless times, just not at this location, so this might not count.

I've crossed US 68 in 9 different places:

  • I-24 at Paducah
  • I-24 west of Hopkinsville
  • I-169 at Hopkinsville
  • I-65 at Bowling Green
  • I-64/75 at Lexington
  • I-71 at Wilmington
  • I-70 at Springfield
  • US 30 in the middle of nowhere
  • I-75 at Findlay

Crossings at I-165 (Bowling Green) and I-69 (SE of Paducah) are very much achievable from my current position, but I haven't gotten the chance to travel in those directions.
Davenport, IA -> Valparaiso, IN -> Ames, IA -> Orlando, FL -> Gainesville, FL -> Evansville, IN

roadman65

US 68 is one that I only did while overlapped with US 52/and to eat at I-71.
So it's both meetings on I-24.
I-65
I-75
I-64/75

US 56 I've done on overlaps with US 283/400 and the former Business alignment of US 50 in Dodge City.
I-135/ US 81
I-135/ KTA
I-35 ( though done the overlap)

US 49 I've crossed, but never transited.
I-10
I-555

US 165 I've crossed, but never drove.

I've passed under the VA-168 toll road in southern Chesapeake, VA a number of times over the past couple of years, but it has been at least two years probably since I've been on the toll road itself.

It's just simply not worth the high toll when Battlefield Blvd (VA-168 Business) is free and a minute longer.

Most times, or most locations?  There are countless roads I've crossed numerous times without traveling on them.  For example, pretty much every time I drive to or from Minnesota, I cross under IA-210 on I-35.

The one that I think of right off hand is US-62.  Crossed it dozens of times travelling back & forth from southeast MI to western WV. Never had  a reason to travel any portion.

SkyPesos

Excluding the unsigned concurrency with I-465, US 31.
From north to south, crossed it at both I-465 junctions, 25th St (Columbus IN), I-265, I-64, I-65 however many times US 31W crosses it between Louisville and Nashville, and I-24.

JayhawkCO

Trying to figure this out. Since I've clinched everything in Colorado, there isn't anything here. I've almost been on every 2di, and haven't intersected with any that I haven't been on. So, looking at the longest US Routes that I haven't been on:

I've intersected US72 with I-240, I-65, and I-24 three times in TN for five total intersections.

For four:

US129, I've intersected with I-40, I-16, I-75, and I-10.
US68, I've intersected with I-70, I-64/75, I-65, and I-24.
US151, I've intersected with I-80, I-39/90/94, I-41, and I-43.

There might be something else, but I can't imagine what it would be.

GaryV

I've crossed M-30 multiple times on I-75 near West Branch while going "Up North". I don't believe I've ever driven it.

If we're only talking "roads", not numbered routes, there's multiple other examples that cross the freeways I've been on, but never been on the roads. Cross roads of surface streets too. I'm sure there's many of us that going to and from work cross several roads everyday that we've never driven.

JayhawkCO

I'm assuming for this exercise we're not using city streets that aren't numbered highways.

roadman65

Though I've been on US 40 from Baltimore to Atlantic City, as well as all interstate overlaps and near Indianapolis Airport near Indy, in IL I've crossed US 40 on I-70 numerous times, but never drove the independent sections from St. Jacob to Vandalia.

I pass Monterey County Route G12 usually at least once a month.  I haven't had to occasion to drive it and really it doesn't super interesting.

Techknow

I gone north of Santa Rosa via US 101, a few times to go west to the Coast or to go north to the cities/towns beyond it, and this means crossing the only freeway portion of CA 12 (not counting multiplexes). I never driven on that freeway or any portion of CA 12 nearby yet, I only driven it to go west from I-80 to get to Napa.

kirbykart

I've crossed I-93 several times and never been on it.

No longer a 7-way tie for three locations each.

MA 30: I-90, I-95/MA 128, I-495, US 20 (terminus), Lexington/Auburn St. in Newton.

That's five crossings. If including rail, add two crossings on the Worcester Line commuter rail for a total of 7.

That's gotta be Highway 407 ETR for me - live close to it, but due to the exorbitant tolls, use it very rarely

Alabama SR 63 for in-state routes. I'm not sure out-of-area.

I-255 for interstates; I could be wrong about that. If there was one nearby I would have taken it at least once or twice.

I don't think there's any US Routes for me that fit this criteria.

I'm not 100% certain I've never been on it, but I'm pretty sure.  For a year and half or so, I had a job delivering janitorial supplies in and around southern Illinois.  My usual route included Harrisburg IL, and so I've passed the northern terminus of IL-145 countless times.

I barely keep track of which routes I cross without going on.

From the top of my head, it is VA-208, with about 20-22. I've crossed it countless times on I-64, but I've been on the route on the multiplex with US 33/VA-22 in Louisa. I will still count it since it's a different physical road.

There may be routes that I failed to include due to not remembering.

My assumption based on the OP was most different locations.
