I haven't been on too many deserted roads, but LA 10 crossing the Mississippi north of Baton Rouge is pretty abandoned feeling. Not sure why DOTD spent the money on that bridge.

Probably US 6 in NV.

Me personally?

Probably Iceland's "Ring Road" in the eastern part of the country between Egilsstaūir and HŲfn following Routes 95 and 1 (current designation, entire length was designated Route 1 when I drove it in 2017).  For being the primary highway through the area, it had lots of gravel sections, one lane bridges, one slightly harrowing (for me) switchback, and not seeing another car for long stretches of time.

Although I would love to drive US 50 and US 6 in Nevada, as well as a number of other roads out west.

Any of the roads when I stationed here (https://www.google.com/maps/@28.2068763,-177.3792206,3a,75y,148.31h,72.62t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1suWSjFMAMjAiVwqiEyWvGOg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en). There might have been a few more people back in 1981, but not many.

Probably US 6 in NV.

Many times.

That said:

-  US Route would be US 191 between Alpine-Morenci, AZ.
-  Interstate would definitely be the San Rafael Swell segment of I-70.
-  State Highway probably would be something obscure like CA 172 or AZ 288.  CA 229 between CA 58 and Creston might be a strong contender also.
-  For County Routes I would give it to County Route J1 in the California Diablo Range many times.  County Route 13/Old Brick Highway north of Espanola, Florida is up there too given it basically is unmaintained road.
-  Forest Service Roads; Forest Route 7/Beasore Road of Sierra National Forest, the Nacimiento Fergusson Road of Los Padres National Forest and Sherman Pass Road of Sequoia National Forest come to mind.
-  National Park Touring Roads have many contenders in the winter but Soda Lake Road is absolutely desolate outside of the super bloom.
-  For OHV Roads I would pick El Camino Del Diablo or the Mojave Road.
-  Regarding abandoned roads and highways the most alone Iíve felt is on the Old Big Oak Flat Road south of Tamarack Flat towards the slide zone approaching Yosemite Valley.

I 70 west of the san rafael swell was pretty lonely, but for me the answer is I 89 and 87 north of plattsburgh last year. with no non commercial traffic allowed into canada I feel that I could have hit triple digits on the speedo in the right lane and neither would have had to change lanes or dealt with the local law enforcement for speeding.

Out of curiosity, have you ever been on that specific segment on I-29 near the border?
I have been several times, and it's actually one of my candidates as well, maybe not when factoring in 2-lane roads, but certainly among interstates.

Yep.  When I once upon a time moved from Kansas City to Seattle, when we drove out, we first went up to Minnesota to visit some family, then jumped into North Dakota and took I-29 up to Winnipeg (along with MB75 obviously).  Then took the TCH and Yellowhead up to Jasper, Icefields Expressway back down to Calgary, then came back into the U.S. and visited Glacier NP before getting back on the interstate system with I-90 at St. Regis, MT.

The border at Pembina only had maybe 5 cars in line when we arrived.

That sounds like fun! Glacier NP is on my bucket list as well. I have actually been to Flathead County, but it was during the winter so Going-to-the-Sun Road was closed.

If you think 5 cars is a short line, try some of the state route crossings! You can usually drive right up and the CBP pretty much knows everyone on a first-name basis and is suspicious of anyone they don't know.

Well tons of rural roads with no volume. And on all the empty state highways in Illinois including state 94 US 34 in Bureau and of course Interstate 180.

Some bucket list travels are crossing into Alberta from Whitlash, MT and taking the ferry at Los Ebanos.

I crossed from Canada into the US at the crossing for US 191 north of Malta, MT, and actually had to wait for the CBP agents to get back to the station and ready to check me in. They were standing at the border itself visiting with their Canadian counterparts when I pulled up.

I know this is being said jokingly, but there is something about a wide, empty freeway that's almost spookier and lonelier than a rural two-lane road. This (https://www.google.com/maps/@35.6836559,-115.3763077,3a,90y,181.33h,91.49t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sgXgd0eqEueyPqFjyU8zVYw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192), for example, seems lonelier with six lanes than it would with four, because the extra lanes create the expectation that it should be busy, and that makes it even more noticeable and out of place when it's not.

Liberty County CR-12 in Florida, itís a somewhat secret fast bypass for part of SR-65 going to Eastpoint/St. George Island. Itís 21 miles from Bristol to 65 and several times I havenít encountered a single car going that route beyond the town, even during spring break in the day. I also havenít encountered cars on SR-65 late at night all the way from Hosford to US-98, about 55 miles. Both routes donít have cell service either going through Tateís Hell State Forrest.

It's been a long time since I drove this one, so perhaps my comment is no longer the case, but I-15 between roughly Rexburg, ID and Butte, MT (over Monida Pass) was very quiet and was about as quiet as any interstate I've driven on.  That includes some mentioned here, such as I-70 through the San Rafael Swell and I-91 north of St. Johnsbury.  Many of our long distance interstates run through desolate areas, but still have a lot of through traffic (especially semis). Didn't see much of that on this part of I-15, though I'll admit it's been ages since I've been there and things change.

Still pretty quiet.  Highest AADT on that stretch is 4,267 near Dillon.

Saddle Road in Hawaii

I was surprised to find Saddle Road relatively busy when I stayed on the Big Island back in 2016.  Especially on days when Hilo was having its Farmer's Market.  We did come back across to Waikoloa Village late one night after the windward clouds settled in.  It was quiet then.

Just looking at the map.  HDOT was constructing the eastern extension of Saddle Road to connect to H-2000 (Puainako Street) in Hilo.  However, Apple Maps is showing H-200 still routed over Kaumana Drive, with a zig-zag back to the New Saddle Road on the old section of Puainako Street.  The old section of H-200 before relocation is still shown as Saddle Road through Kaumana Homesteads.

i defer to your research on the numbers... i've also never been on co-101, so.. you're probably right. i just remember briggsdale being basically a gas station and a cow, and i think new raymer might have two or 3 cows, and a random guy in a pickup.

That's about right.  I got gas at that gas station in Briggsdale and I think while I was filling up, maybe 10-12 cars drove by.  There is a decent amount of truck traffic on that route as it is the quickest way from Fort Collins to I-80 going east (via I-76).

Saddle Road in Hawaii
ME 9
I-91 in northern Vermont
US 201 in Maine
US 3 near the Canadian border
How could I have forgotten about the Lake Ontario State Parkway? Saw 0 cars on it (it was during the night however).

As a literal answer, there are a few FM roads in west Texas 40 or 45 miles long I've driven without seeing another vehicle the whole time.  One of those roads is now quite busy because of oil and gas development.

As a philosophical answer, I'd say probably I-635 in Dallas.  No place is as lonely as where you're surrounded by people and have connections with none of them.

I see, cool. I didn't know you had been to/through Rochester.

It is somewhat surprising that there was zero cars, as there's usually some traffic west of Hamlin Beach, and especially west of NY 261.

It was around 10 pm. I haven't spent much time there, I slept over for one night on my way back from Niagra Falls.

I was there too! My family visited Fort Niagara, got to see a nice view of Toronto, and drove to our hotel in Rochester on NY 18 and the Lake Ontario Parkway. Got to see the sunset near lake Ontario. We stopped at Wilson House Restaurant and Inn in Wilson. Very lightly traveled, but nice, part of New York.

Sounds fun! I've driven through Wilson a few times but never stopped there. Also went to Fort Niagara on a school field trip.

And Lake Ontario is great for sunsets. I enjoyed a few of them this very weekend, in fact.
