Title: Concealing Freeways

Look at the above photo.

Notice it's in a forested area. Trees on both sides of the highway as you pan around.

Just go to Satellite imaging and look what is really to the right of the two lane CR 527.  Less than 100 feet into the green, is I-78.

What comes to mind is a similar example on S Landing Rd (https://www.google.com/maps/@43.1365103,-77.5327104,3a,90y,179.38h,81.79t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sxzRwEFqAd51DRkialuIwmQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656) in Brighton NY, where I-490 is about 100 feet away on the right. And less than half a mile down the road, this crossing of I-490 (https://www.google.com/maps/@43.1334764,-77.5288083,3a,63.7y,139.15h,84.87t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sVv47SikAZuzpAZ2zZ7t0ng!2e0!7i13312!8i6656) is woven into the fabric of the neighborhood pretty seamlessly.

Also, in before someone mentions the tunnels in Pittsburgh... who knew this (https://www.google.com/maps/@40.426766,-79.9192209,3a,90y,20.53h,83.19t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sKQ46uGzRVZkeJd_gvgVVBw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192) was directly top of an interstate!?

Interesting. Judging by the age of the houses, the freeway must have been built after they were. How far below the houses does the freeway run? It must be unsettling to know there's a freeway right under your basement.

Pretty easy in climates where trees grow like weeds.

I-5 and Old US 99 near Arlington, WA: https://goo.gl/maps/3AhiHYStUCAMc4Wz8

I-5 and Freeway Place in Everett, WA: https://goo.gl/maps/96eWxfcfKhbQgTm1A

US 2 and Bunk Foss Road in Snohomish, WA: https://goo.gl/maps/WcTkk51ZM6reTy6S8

And this is on top of I-90 in Seattle: https://goo.gl/maps/a27AvDr7XVBK2vKFA

I remember when this opened. It was the last segment of I-78 to finally finish. I'm glad they didn't just blast through Watchung to build it.

A little different, but I've always found it cool how the satellite portion of BOS Terminal A is directly on top of I-90 in the Ted Williams Tunnel (https://www.google.com/maps/@42.3634647,-71.0219786,567m/data=!3m1!1e3!5m1!1e1?hl=en) (which can't be too far below the surface here since the portals are just beyond the edge of the terminal building).

And then there's this park in Philadelphia (https://www.google.com/maps/@39.9442206,-75.142718,3a,75y,94.91h,90t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sZBWp08fuu6naoDuLRhdMSA!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fpanoid%3DZBWp08fuu6naoDuLRhdMSA%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D96.39703%26pitch%3D0%26thumbfov%3D100!7i16384!8i8192) that actually covers up I-95, and does a great job for those who drive/walk by it too.

I-95 has a stretch of this between Richmond and Fredericksburg.

All freeway caps...

The Pittsburgh and Seattle examples are not lids, but tunnels beneath the surface. The latter two would be considered lids as they were built using cut and cover.

Still, none are related to the OP but thread topics are known to "shift" a bit.

I'm not referring to the Pittsburgh and Seattle ones, it's that freeway lids are the first example to come to mind. Though another tunnel example are the Boston Big Dig tunnels.
