I know Jason Pawlowski (I think I spelled that right) has tried to join numerous times but has never been successful. To me, he's certainly less offensive than a few I could name but won't.

I'm here I just post very, very infrequently. Last time I logged in I guess was March or something.

Guess you're no longer missing, Jason.

I know blawp and Ethanman are banished, but I figured the only one with a permanent ban was V'ger.
I've wondered what happened to V'ger. He seemed to be fairly active back in the day and his contributions seemed valid and helpful.

(Sorry to bump 3.5 years - although I've bumped a thread 9 years by mistake. Is that a newbie thing I should stop doing?)

He wrested control of the forum, banned the owners, admins, and moderators, and therefore became persona non grata.

Generally, yes, bumps should be avoided:
Bumping topics (responding to a post older than 120 days) is highly discouraged. Topics should only be bumped if there is new and relevant information to add (such as a old topic on a proposed construction project, where construction has recently begun). Simply posting the word “Bump”  (or something similar) to force a topic to the top of a page will force a newer and potentially more relevant topic to drop from the first page of the forum. Continued abuse can lead to your posting privileges being curtailed or suspended.

This is generally frowned upon.  Most, if not all established members would prefer that you spent some time reading and researching on your own.  If all else fails, I'd suggest sending a PM to a senior member who's been here a long time and likely knows the ropes.  For example, I've been a member here for 9 years (only a little less than this forum has existed).  While my post count isn't all that high, I do read nearly everything and have spent a good amount of time researching and putting 2 and 2 together.  I'd be happy to help you if I can.  If I don't know or don't want to speak on a particular subject, I'll let you know.  I'd be happy to help you, but please don't hit me with a ton of questions.  Remember, try to help yourself first.  Otherwise, feel free to ask; just acknowledge and understand that we all have lives away from the forum and it may take a little time for one to respond.

I was known as "Grover" on MTR, before picking up the entomological name I use now.

Used to think of Sesame Street's Grover character every time we drove by the Grover Cleveland service plaza on the NJTP.

Who was "A Hungry Crocodile" on MTR?

Sounds like a strange Jeopardy question.

Check out this link for a census map showing how the population center
of the country has moved steadily westward. It appears to be picking
up speed. It looks like it's left I-64 and is on I-70 (well, not
really).

If you don't have Adobe, you won't be able to see this.
