Didn't see this anywhere on the forum but evidently I-195 southeast of MD 170 has been removed from the interstate highway system effective 9/1/15...

Looks like this has been signed in the field - there's "END I-195" signs just past the exit 1A ramp to northbound MD 170.

EDIT: And they've been there since before 2011...weird.

This makes some sense, as the character of the road ceases to be a freeway almost immediately after the Md. 170 interchange, and the speed limit drops quickly.

2010 even:

Question is, have the three shields along terminal roads leading out of BWI been removed. They are still there on GSV as of 2012.

I wanna say they're still there, having been through the airport last year, but my memory might be playing tricks on me.
Call me Kenny/Kenneth. No, seriously.

The Ghostbuster

Maybe they should bring back the MD 46 designation for this stretch.

Or make I-195 an extension of MD 166.

Why would a route number really be needed past 170?  All that's there is the airport, and it's not like people aren't going to know they're turning/heading towards the airport at that point.

WillWeaverRVA

I was going to say, at that point you're pretty much just on access roads or ramps to the airport. There's no point in having a route number there.

I wasn't being serious. I agree that segment is too short to have a route number.

All of the access roads and ramps leading out of the airport towards MD 170 are still signed as I-195.

I think as early as 2008 or 2009 that "END I-170" sign was still there. So I'm gonna hypothesize that this change was introduced several years ago unofficially.

End I-170?

Apparently a video I shot in 1993 had a I-195 reassurance shield posted east of MD 170. Definitely not one there now. Perhaps changes in the field were done well in advance before they petitioned AASHTO for the formal withdraw?

On the flip side, the eastbound beginning was signed at the Catonsville park & ride through to 2012, yet the westbound end shield is posted at I-95. I read that the park & ride lot was reconstructed in 2012, with the entrance road from Rolling Road relocated and a signal added for the exit and left hand turn from MD 166 to Rolling Road south. Were there any changes to I-195 signs made then (I've not been to that end since 2010).

I'm in the process of overhauling our poorly written and out of date I-195 interstate-guide page now.

The end signs are not shown in the June 2008 streetview.

There is still an I-195 East sign posted next to the Park and Ride on MD 166 east.

Dug out the DVD with my old VHS footage from 04/24/93 when I first clinched I-195, and sure enough, there was a I-195 confirming shield posted beyond the 35 MPH speed limit signs on Metropolitan Boulevard as it entered BWI Airport:

The other notable change is that signs for MD 170 back then referenced it as Camp Meade Road.

Maybe they should bring back the MD 46 designation for this stretch.

I would love to see Md. 46 return to the western part of the state.

As Mr. MDRoads suggested to me, it would make a short (and logical) connection from Md. 135 to W.Va. 46 over the North Branch of the Potomac River between Luke and Bloomington.

That would be a useful connection!

I guess they changed it to Aviation Blvd at some point, but the part of MD 170 north of the airport is still Camp Meade Rd.
