Recently while going through an old series of photos I put together a blog post on Point Loma which involved former CA 209, LRN 12, and if US 80 ever went west of US 101:

In short it appears US 80 never made it to Point Loma.  Every official state highway map from the Division of Highways never showed anything on Point Loma other than LRN 12 before 1964.  USends has a Gousha Map that shows US 80 ending in Point Loma but noted the questionable nature of the claim.  Really about the only thing I can think to do is throw to the forum to see if there is any photographic proof somehow of US 80 existing west of US 101 to Point Loma.

I recently revisited CA 209 and Cabrillo National Monument while in San Diego.  That being the case I took some photos of former CA 209 on Catalina Boulevard and Cabrillo Memorial Drive.  Looking through all the maps again I still can't find any evidence US 80 was ever extended to Cabrillo National Monument on Point Loma.

Back in the spring of 1969 I traveled the full distance of CA 209 down to Cabrillo NM (my then-GF, a history buff, spent well over an hour there taking pictures) -- about 2 years after 209 signage was placed there.  I recall it being one of the best-signed CA routes in my experience -- a reassurance sign every couple of blocks, and very clear directional indicators where it changed alignments to get from Rosecrans up to Cabrillo Blvd. -- very much the "good old days" when the Division of Highways actually gave a shit about such things!

There was still a CA 209 shield on an overhead street sign when I visited Point Loma in Jan 2019...

Those probably will be a around for at least a couple more decades too given they are fairly modern.  Too bad there wasn't one at Canon and Catalina.
