PennDOT - District 6 News: PennDOT to Host Virtual Public Meeting for Belmont Avenue Roundabout Project in Lower Merion Township (may link to it later, it looks like some news releases are missing right now)

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to attend a live virtual public meeting on Wednesday, March 27, for the upcoming project to reconstruct the Belmont Avenue and St. Asaphs Road Intersection from a signalized intersection to a two-lane roundabout in Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County.

As part of PennDOT's public outreach program, the department encourages the public to attend the live virtual public meeting on Wednesday, March 27, beginning at 7:00 PM, by clicking on this Microsoft Live Teams meeting link prior to the presentation start time. The department's design team will deliver a project presentation before answering questions using the platform's Q&A feature.

Please note that internet access and a computer or mobile device are required to view the virtual meeting. Anyone with special needs or requiring special aid is requested to contact PennDOT Project Manager Nathan Parrish.

Members of the public who are unable to attend the meeting can view the meeting recording and copy of the project materials on the project webpage. An online comment form will also be available to submit questions or feedback.

PennDOT - District 6 News: Maintenance Activities Scheduled in Philadelphia, Bucks, and Delaware Counties

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that various maintenance activities are scheduled in Philadelphia, Bucks, and Delaware counties.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

Friday, March 29, Saturday, March 30, and Monday, April 1, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Byberry Road will be closed between Evans Street and Worthington Road in Philadelphia for bridge repair. During the closure, motorists are directed to use Worthington Road, Southampton Road, and U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard).
Monday, April 1, through Wednesday, April 3, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Trevose Avenue will be closed between Route 532 (Bustleton Avenue) and Route 132 (Street Road) in Philadelphia and Southampton and Bensalem townships, Bucks County for pipe replacement. During the closer, motorists are directed to use Route 132 (Street Road), Philmont Avenue, and Route 532 (Bustleton Avenue).
Thursday, April 4, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Church Road will be closed between Valley Forge Road/Harrison Drive and St. Davids Road in Radnor and Newtown townships, Delaware County for tree removal. During the closure, motorists are directed to use St. Davids Road, Newtown Street Road, and Waterloo Road.
Thursday, April 4, and Friday, April 5, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Green Street/Pebble Hill Road will be closed between Main Street and Edison Furlong Road in Doylestown Borough and Doylestown Township, Bucks county for pipe replacement. During the closure, motorists are directed to use Edison Furlong Road, Route 611 (Easton Road), and Easton Road/Main Street.
Local access will be maintained. Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

PennDOT - District 6 News: Emergency Overhead Bridge Repair to Close I-95 North for Several Days Beginning Tonight in Northeast Philadelphia

95 North is now expected to open sometime Friday.

Apparently, the oversized load was being escorted by 2 Philly cops.  Cops say they were not responsible for verifying the height of the vehicle (which they are correct about), but there was also no other vehicle escorting that had a height pole.  The bridge hit, used by NJ Transit on their Atlantic City line, does not have any low clearance markings.

PennDOT - District 6 News: PennDOT Reopens I-95 North Following Conrail Overhead Bridge Repair in Northeast Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has reopened northbound Interstate 95 approaching the Betsy Ross Bridge/Aramingo Avenue Interchange in Northeast Philadelphia following the completion of overhead bridge repair by Conrail. The northbound lanes had been closed since Monday night, April 1, after a tractor-trailer struck a Conrail bridge over the interstate earlier in the day.

I-95 North approaching the Betsy Ross Bridge/Aramingo Avenue Interchange was reduced to a single lane immediately following the crash before the interstate was closed just after 10:00 PM Monday night for cleanup and repair operations by Conrail's contractor.

In addition to I-95 North reopening today, the ramp from Castor Avenue to I-95 North has also reopened to traffic.

Philadelphia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that overhead sign removal will take place tonight, May 7, on northbound Interstate 95 in Northeast Philadelphia.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

Tuesday, May 7, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a right lane closure will take place on northbound I-95 between the Bridge Street and Cottman Avenue interchanges.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and delays will occur. This operation is weather dependent.

The core borings are part of PennDOT's $268 million I-95 Section BS2 project to reconstruct I-95 between Carver an Margaret streets and improve the Bridge Street Interchange.

PennDOT - District 6 News: Traffic Shift, Ramp Closure Next Week Mark the Start of Southbound I-95 Reconstruction at Bridge Street in Northeast Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that reconstruction of the southbound side of Interstate 95 is scheduled to begin at the Bridge Street Interchange following a mid-week traffic shift and closure of the southbound off-ramp to James Street (Exit 27) in Northeast Philadelphia.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

Monday, June 3, through Thursday, June 6, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a right lane closure will be in place on northbound and southbound I-95 between the Betsy Ross Bridge and Allegheny Avenue interchanges for core borings.
Monday, June 3, through Friday, June 7, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, the ramp from Aramingo Avenue to southbound I-95 at the Bridge Street Interchange will close for emergency pavement repairs. Motorists will be detoured south on Aramingo Avenue to the ramp to I-95 south at the Betsy Ross Bridge Interchange.
Wednesday, June 5, and Friday June 7, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, single lane closures will be in place on southbound I-95 between the Cottman Avenue and Bridge Street interchanges for barrier placement and removal.
Thursday, June 6, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, alternating single and double lane closures will be in place on southbound I-95 between the Cottman Avenue and Bridge Street interchanges to set up the new traffic pattern. The southbound off-ramp to James Street (Exit 27) will close permanently at this time. Motorists will be detoured to the northbound Aramingo Avenue off-ramp at the Betsy Ross Bridge Interchange (Exit 26) then east on Tacony Street to Bridge Street.
Thursday, June 6, and Friday, June 7, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, periodic left lane closures will be in place on northbound and southbound I-95 between the Betsy Ross Bridge and Bridge Street interchanges for spot painting and anti-graffiti coating.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time for travel through all I-95 work areas. All scheduled activities are weather permitting.

The core borings are part of the design phase for PennDOT's upcoming I-95/AF3 project that will reconstruct northbound I-95 and its structures between Ann Street and Wheatsheaf Lane. Section AF3 is tentatively scheduled for construction in 2025.

The on-ramp repairs are part of a $37.4 million project to perform high-priority repairs on 27 I-95 bridges in the City, to maintain the functionality, safety, and mobility of the structures along this critical corridor.

The activities at the Bridge Street Interchange are part of PennDOT's ongoing I-95/BS2 project that will reconstruct I-95 in both directions from Margaret Street to Carver Street. Section BS2 is expected to be completed in 2027.

Next week's shift will free the southbound lanes through the work zone, allowing PennDOT's contractor to begin rebuilding that side of the interstate. The six-lane traffic pattern (three lanes each direction) will remain in place for the duration of the project. When southbound reconstruction is completed in 2025, the traffic pattern will shift to the west side of the work area for reconstruction of the northbound side of I-95.

The southbound off-ramp to James Street will be replaced with new southbound off-ramp will pass under I-95 to a new signalized interchange complex on Tacony Street north of Bridge Street. That new interchange will also accommodate new a new northbound on ramp that will be built during the next stage of the BS2 project. The existing northbound on-ramp from Bridge Street will remain open until the new on-ramp is in place.

The original northbound I-95 off-ramp to Bridge Street (Exit 27) was permanently closed in April 2023 for construction at the interchange. Off-ramp traffic is now exiting at the Betsy Ross Bridge Interchange and following Aramingo Avenue north back to Bridge Street.

Section BS2 is the second of five contracts to reconstruct the interstate and improve the interchange at Bridge Street.  PennDOT completed Section BS1 reconstruction to rebuild and widen I-95 pavement between Levick Street and Carver Street in early 2023.

During all upcoming work on Section BS2, three travel lanes in each direction will remain open during peak travel times, though periodic off-peak lane closures may be in place on I-95 during certain stages of construction operations. However, a number of different traffic patterns will be in place on the surface streets at the interchange (Bridge Street, Tacony Street, Aramingo Avenue) during BS2 construction.

James J. Anderson Construction, of Philadelphia, is the general contractor on Section BS2, which is valued at $268 million.
