The "what counts as a state clinch" stuff going on in another thread inspired this post. Basically, how many states have you been to if you go by each the various "rules." First I started off with the typical criteria you'd see brought up in one of those debates, then I added a bunch of transportation related stuff for the hell of it. I've never owned a car in which I've clinched all 50 (Hawaii is just not worth the bother, and Alaska I've never had the opportunity) but I've done the lower 48 in at two cars I've owned, and I've done 44 in 13 days in a rental car (missed only OR, WA, NH, ME, GA, FL).
