Note this video focuses on a freeway in the Auckland area.

Very nice video.  Not ever having been to NZ, I was quite surprised at how much the signage and other design elements resemble US interstate highways (except for driving on the left side of the road, of course).

They're a mix of Australia and America when it comes to sign standards. The font is a near-copy and then layout in NZ is more similar to us than Australia is. But both are still much more like us than anything in Europe.

In regard to typefaces, the glyphs are identical to the FHWA series but Series A is still in use and there are (IIRC) three gradations of intercharacter spacing.  The controlling document in both Australia and New Zealand is Australian Standard 1744 (https://infostore.saiglobal.com/en-us/Standards/AS-1744-2015-1796681/).  New Zealand also uses the (UK) Transport typefaces in some limited applications.
