Hey,

I am wondering if anyone else is having issues with the shield generator. I click on the link and the page opens saying flash loading, and then the page is just blank with no generator showing up?  I see the ads, menu, and header/footer but nothing in the middle.  Is the generator down, or is it my computer?

Thanks

Max Rockatansky

Pretty sure that it hasn't worked for a good while now.

Now alternating between different highway shields for my avatar - my previous highway shield avatar for the last few years was US 76.

It's pretty much dead. I discovered that I could not get it to work on Chrome, Firefox or IE a couple of weeks ago. I wrote Jake about it and he said with flash depreciated, it likely would have to be rewrote in a more modern code language. I'll remove it from the site when I get to reworking the shield gallery.

Meanwhile, you should try the Shields Up! generator; it has the same features as the AARoads one, and is a much better alternative.

Any member with coding knowledge that wants to try to create a new one is welcome to do so. Will supply the original files for anyone interested.

Shields Up also doesn't have the historical California signs. I discovered the generator wasn't working today while starting work on the highway pages; it was working back in September, so some recent change in Flash must have killed it.

Pretty much, yeah. It wasn't saving shields, though...that part crashed a long time ago, so I had to do a copy-paste to save anything I created.

I've had some back and forth with David over at Shields Up. I think if someone can get him the historical shields, he'll see if he can work those into the tool.

Or just open up your favorite graphics editor program and make your own. Templates for virtually all sign types are readily available online.

I saved a bunch of signs from the Shield Generator, so I can make my own as needed.  Plus there are several commercial sign manufacturers that have designs that you can save.

Agreed. When I discovered the "save" feature didn't work on the Shield Generator, I just decided to make my shields in Inkscape using blank highway shields off of Wikipedia.

I did "print screen" from the generator then edited them in my graphics program.

I wouldn't mind fixing the page. I see some graphical improvements I could make.

No promises, but I'll present it to the rest of the staff.
