After 22 years, the final contract 15027(04) for widening OK6 between Altus and Elk City was on the final April 2019 Bid Opening list.  Then Speaker Loyd Benson (D-Frederick) and Sen Gilmer Capps (D-Altus) were instrumental in getting ODOT to commit to 4-laning OK6 north from Altus to Elk City.  The usual "economic development" benefits were quoted.  It took 22 years to see their dream fulfilled.
When you come to a fork in the road... TAKE IT.

The last 2 lane segment is about 4-5 miles long. Rural 4-lane divided routes is one of the few things I like about Oklahoma's roads. They'll 4-lane a road between Altus and Elk City. But up in Colorado they can't manage to 4-lane US-24 between Colorado Springs and Limon, no matter how many fatal head on collisions happen. I guess the lawmakers up there expect people to ride bicycles for their road trips.
