Title: Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge Spur
Post by: Bryant5493 on September 22, 2009, 08:24:21 PM
Does this spur carry US 441? Also, what's the speed limit on this road? Lastly, does anybody have any pics of the Spur?

I've not been on it in awhile.

My parents went up there a few years ago and given what they told me, I don't see the speed limit being too high.

^^ Last time I went up there, the speed limit was 35 m.p.h. I thought it might've gone up or down.

I was in that area back in March, but I'm not sure what you mean by Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge Spur.

If you can enlighten me, I might be able to tell you if I was on it.

^^ Parkway -- the portion between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. I referred to the route as "Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge Spur" (http://www.wate.com/Global/story.asp?S=10878803) after reading a report of a man dying on the route.

OK.  I get it.  I drove Parkway all the way from Sevierville to Gatlinburg and back.  Most of the time I was going 40-45 but I honestly don't remember what the speed limit was.

^^ Oh, okay. So, 441 and 321 (?) are on this portion, right?

Yes, that I can confirm.  US 321 and 441 multiplex from Gatlinburg up into Pidgeon Forge where 321 leaves.

See http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=gatlinburg+tn&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=31.646818,77.519531&ie=UTF8&ll=35.794425,-83.533173&spn=0.252856,0.605621&z=11 (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=gatlinburg+tn&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=31.646818,77.519531&ie=UTF8&ll=35.794425,-83.533173&spn=0.252856,0.605621&z=11)

I can also confirm that they are a reverse direction multiplex.  US 441 south is US 321 north and vice-versa.  But, US 321, as it often does in TN, is directionally challenged.  Or 441 matches the compass direction and 321 is 180 degrees opposite.

^^^

I wonder when that was taken.  Both lanes were open through that tunnel this spring.

BTW That tunnel is northbound only.  And, I don't just mean that it's one way, the southbound lanes are on the other side of a creek and does not have a corresponding tunnel.

^^ My memory's blurry, but I kind of remember that vaguely. My dad was driving and folks kept honking. He didn't have his lights on and the signs told motorists to turn on their headlights. In his defense, the car my mom had had a dashboard that would light up when the ignition was turned.
