Was I-15 signed along Hamner Avenue in Norco and Corona, California?

This excerpt from the 1980 Rand McNally road atlas shows I-15 being signed along with CA 31 along Hamner Avenue north of Corona, CA. Was it actually signed along a city street? If so, was it signed as TEMP I-15? The same map shows a TEMP I-15E to the east of this section.

Hamner Avenue was indeed signed as "Temporary I-15" once I-15 was constructed south to CA 60 in 1980 (it had reached I-10 a year earlier).  Prior to that CA 31 signage existed along Hamner as well as its Milliken Ave. extension in eastern Ontario north of there.   31 signage was largely removed (except for a few "straggler" signs in Corona and Norco) when the temporary I-15 signage was erected.  That temporary signage extended south of CA 91 as well along then-CA 71 to the original 4-lane freeway section from south Corona to north of Lake Elsinore.  IIRC, that segment got actual I-15 signage circa 1979-80.  BTW, one of the last CA 31 signs was a trailblazer just before the EB 91>NB 31/Temp 15 loop ramp (prior to the interchange's reconstruction as a wide diamond in the late '80's); that sign had been there since first erected back in 1968.

And based on a previous post of Sparkers (which I quoted on my I-15 page and my Route 31 page), what is now I-215 was ALSO once signed as TEMP I-15. I think that when I-15E was created, the Temp I-15 moved to Route 31.  You can see that on the map on my Route 31 page.

Oh, I haven't announced that yet.  :-D

I'm in the process of adding maps showing the routing of highways (including ones that no longer exist) to all my pages. I've also gone away from the table format I've used. I've also cleaned up some of the icons, which dated back to 1996! I've done Routes 1-35 so far. Route 31 took a lot of work to find a map that actually showed 31. I'd love to know what folks think, or if they see significant glitches.

Take a look at https://www.cahighways.org/025-032.html#031

[Eventually, I'll put putting one route a page. That's something I'm actively planning for.]

Nice work!

I'm going through the maps for 1-35 so far...some random thoughts:

Route 9, Pre-1963: the dots follow the newer 680 routing between Mission San Jose and Warm Springs, rather than the older 9/21 routing on the portion of Mission Boulevard that 680 bypassed

Route 16: for the map showing segments 1 and 2, dotted lines to cover the old Woodland-West Sacramento-downtown Sacramento-east Sacramento middle segment would be neat, and maybe marking the section from US 50 to Grant Line Road as reliniquished.

Route 17: Route 17 was always in-the-field signed along today's 880 between 280 and 262, correct?  (Just trying to factor in the planned San Jose reroute in the 1964-1965 definition of Route 17 that instead became I-280 through downtown SJ and I-680 past Alum Rock)

Route 22: The map shows the proposed Long Beach east-west freeway corridor (the one slated to follow Anaheim Street approximately) as part of 22, but IIRC that was proposed as Route 1 if I'm not mistaken

Route 24: Although mentioned in the text, not sure either of the maps marks Ashby Avenue/modern Route 13 as part of pre-1964 Route 24.  The 1950s direct Sacramento-Marysville route that was built as Route 24 (and later became Route 99 and Route 70) isn't shown in map form yet

Route 29: Not a super important detail but there might be room to mark Route 175's Middletown north-south segment as pre-1964 Route 29.

Route 30: The pre-1972 segment to Big Bear along Route 330 might be worth up a separate map

Route 33, segment 4: Since the entirety of the Volta route (pre-1972) is visible in the map inset, that could be marked

I'll see what I can do. My focus with the maps is showing current routings, and getting them all done first. Trying to show all the historical stuff is probably too much, but some of that might come over time.

Back about 1970-71 (when I was still attending UCR), US 395 from Moreno Valley to Perris saw some "Temporary I-15" signage -- prior to the 1971 decision to route the mainline I-15 south along the CA 31 freeway alignment through Ontario (and along CA 71 south of Corona); that was replaced by the beginning of 1973 with "Temporary I-15E" signage after the portion of I-15 from Devore south to I-10 was re-designated (and signed) as I-15E as a result of the prior I-15 rerouting decision.  That signage was extended south along US 395 -- through the notorious Riverside cloverleaf interchange -- all the way to the south/east 395/60 split near Moreno Valley.  South from there the "temporary" signage prevailed.  Of course, that was redesignated as I-215 in 1982.

True story, bro and sis. A regular road is treated like an interstate on now decommissioned CA SR 31. As a child in the 1980s, I remember the I-15/CA 91 junction was being constructed above the 91 freeway in Corona CA. What's interesting now is Hamner Avenue crosses Eastvale and Jurupa Valley which became cities incorporated in the 2010s, located south of what used to be a NASA installation of some kind by the I-15/CA 90 junction. Older maps (20th century) labelled the area along Hamner Avenue (CA SR 31) simply as "Wineville" due to what used to be vineyards for table grapes and wineries.
Get your kicks...on Route 99! Like to turn 66 upside down. The other historic Main street of America.
