Nevada State Route 425 is a 3.437-mile-long highway located in Washoe County.  The highway is a former segment of the 1939 era alignment of US Route 40 along 3rd Street in the community of Verdi.  The corridor assumed the designation it now carries as part of the 1976 Nevada State Highway renumbering shortly after US Route 40 was decommissioned in the state.  The highway was co-designated as Interstate 80 Business Loop in 1982 along with several other like corridors in Nevada.  The designation is Nevada State Route 425 is heavily deemphasized on-route in favor of Interstate 80 Business.

Hmmm. I think I'll add Dog Valley Rd and Henness Pass Rd to my bucket list.

Quote from: the Gribblenation pieceThe Central Pacific Railroad would establish a siding and town plot at O'Neal's Crossing in 1868 called Verdi.  The community was named after Italian opera composer Giuseppe Verdi.

This is correct, but it should be noted that the composer's name is pronounced "VAIR-dee", while the name of the town is pronounced locally as "VUHR-die".

During a recent resurfacing project, NDOT replaced all the BGSs on I-80 from the CA state line to exit 8 in both directions, and in doing so updated the destinations on the signage to transition away from place names to favor roadway names (apparently that is new preferred practice for rural signing). Your GoogleMaps link shows one such change—the old destination was simply "East Verdi" (now relegated to the smaller supplemental sign), but the sign now shows SR 425 and Old US 40. (BTW: That BGS has the only SR 425 shield you'll see.)

SR 425/Old US 40 ends at the intersection of the eastbound frontage road and Gold Ranch Road (the westbound frontage road), so SR 425 does not directly intersect I-80 at its western terminus. The eastbound exit (exit 2) feeds directly into the eastbound frontage road to that intersection. It seems NDOT made the choice to sign the eastbound exit 2 for Gold Ranch Road instead of SR 425/Old US 40 (or both), likely because the westbound exit 2 dumps directly to Gold Ranch Road and is signed for that as well. I would argue a supplemental "To SR 425 east/Old US 40 next exit" sign would be warranted—NDOT isn't good about this kind of signage though...
