Last month I had an opportunity to drive the 120-mile stretch from Del Rio to Sanderson.  This segment features:

    the Pecos River bridge,
    a taste of the Chihuahuan Desert,
    the highway's closest approach to Mexico,
    lots of Border Patrol presence, and
    lots of historic bridges and alignments.
I've drawn in some of the old alignments on this map...
