Will there be any more Mods/Admins on this forum?

Max Rockatansky

Will they be time travelers?  I expect mods from the future, I want to know what 2121 is like.

Alright. Question has been answered.

US 89

The Grand Alan is now and forevermore high admin and lord over us all.

Eventually, there might have to. There are already some mod and admins that are barely active on the forum (one of the regional mods did not post between 2017 and 2021).

Yes. Even the forum owner isn't super active, but he might just be busy with life so I wouldn't look into it.

I for one welcome Zuul as our new Regional Moderator.  Hopefully this doesn't mean Vinz Clortho also gets to be a moderator also, he seems too clumsy for the job.  Plus that whole Gatekeeper and Key Master thing might have bad results if FritzOwl gets to chose the form of The Destructor.

If we're going to have mods, we need rockers to be fair to all.

(I know tolbs17 likely won't understand that reference....)

This is a fortunate result, but there is one shortcoming with the current system, which is recruitment.  If I want to give back to the community, how do I serve?  Who do I approach?  If moderators were elected, then the obvious way of doing this would be to run for election, as I did years ago in SABRE without having previously been a co-opted member of SABRE Committee or otherwise part of the power structure.

This is a decent point, as there is really no real "list of possible moderators" that we consult when a position is active. Zeffy became a moderator after working with Alex to improve the site. I became a moderator in the wake of V'Ger's messy exodus from the forum; I had heard that Alex was considering declaring the forum to be a failure and not restoring it, so I reached out to him to ask if there was anything I could do to help get it back up.

The more typical moderator career path starts with regional moderator; when it's decided a board needs a regional moderator, we look at the candidates with a history of good conduct that are active in the regional board in question. Should they do well in that position they are 'promoted' to a general moderator whenever there is a vacancy.

If one were to wish to become a moderator, I would suggest looking to see if there is a regional moderator position open in the area you frequent, and if not, PM a moderator asking about filling it. More established users with years of posting history might be able to directly apply for a global moderator position, but we aren't always looking for new ones. We seldom reach a decision on who should be an admin ahead of time before contacting them, because there is always the risk of the decided-upon user not having the time or desire to moderate.

Wow, that entire thread was really interesting. I can't believe I've been here as long as I have without reading it or even knowing it existed.

Aren't you also making an unwarranted assumption that he might want to be a moderator? (To be clear, I have no idea whether he does or does not.) I would decline if I were asked to be a moderator.

Just throwing suggestions. Not everyone has interest (including myself) in wanting to become a moderator.

We don't really need any suggestions–I don't believe that we have any need to add any mods at the present time, and by the time we do circumstances may have changed where any nominated users may no longer be suitable for the role (due to inactivity, and incident that may have happened by that time, etc.) Actively nominating users could place an unwanted spotlight on them, should they not be interested in the role, or feel like there is a need to begin campaigning for it. Likewise, it puts us in the awkward spot of having to reject users (which carries the risk of starting bad blood) simply because we don't really have a need to add anyone, even if an ideal candidate were presented to us.

So, you are saying we are good with what we have now. We used to have 3 more global mods (Zeffy, US71, and deathtopumpkins). But I think they wanted to be demoted.

US71 was demoted for copying Trump's campaign announcement statement in 2015 in the context of Asian Americans.
Clinched, minus I-93 (I'm missing a few miles and my file is incorrect)

Traveled, plus US 13, 44, and 50, and several state routes

I will be in Burlington VT for the eclipse.

Yes. Also that stating specific users that you think should be mods is socially awkward for us to have to deal with, so I, at least, would prefer that you didn't do that.

Cause they seem to be talking in a MOD way.
