One of Australia's busiest freeway's to get an upgrade. Note an area designated as stage 1 will be completed later in 2018 according to the article but other sections of the Monash will be upgraded from 8-10 lanes and that project will start in later 2018.
$ 100 million is pocket change in Australia. I don't know why, but road projects in Australia are ludicrously expensive compared to most of the U.S. or Canada. Or Europe for that matter.
For example, the 26 kilometer (5 km in tunnel) of the northeast link of Melbourne will cost a staggering A$ 16.5 billion: https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/route-chosen-for-new-melbourne-freeway-20171124-gzryck.html
The West Gate Freeway project, also in Melbourne, will cost up to A$ 5.5 billion. That is over $ 1 billion per kilometer. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Gate_Tunnel
