NISP (Northern Integrated Supply Project) plans to create a new water storage facility, Glade Reservoir, over the current alignment of US 287, between Ted's Place and Ingleside.  US 287 will have seven miles relocated to the East, according to the NISP website.

In an Oct. 3, 2024 decision, the Colorado Appeals Court upheld a lower court decision and confirmed the permit was properly issued, according to CPR News.  With this ruling, it sounds like the project has the courts OK to proceed.

Interesting. I wonder if that makes traffic there a little lower since the savings vs. I-80->I-25 go down.

Going off of the project map, it doesn't look like the new route would take much longer? If anything, it might save time

Looks simple, but there is an impressive "hogback" ridge that they will have to tunnel through or cut through to get the road from the current valley over one valley to the east.  The above map even says "Hogback Ridge."  Sad to lose that valley.  Was my second favorite part of the trip from Laramie to Ft Collins.

Many semi's and other travelers already take Owl Canyon Rd. off of I-25 as a short cut to miss Ft. Collins red lights and traffic. That route already by-passes this change of alignment. I am sure that route will get more crowded as this progresses in construction.

Here's a design plan for US 287 realignment from the NISP environmental docs.

There's a 3D visualization in this meeting recording from January 2023 (starting ~32:47), and a less detailed (road-wise) interactive map on the NISP site.

Two lanes with ROW for four, with a climbing lane near the north end. At the south end, it splits from the current route near Overland Trail, where it might have a roundabout intersection with the old alignment (now just Hwy 14). There'll be a realignment at Ted's Place to make Hwy 14 the through movement.

Bumping something old, because I just now saw it.

I live in Poudre Canyon. Wondering if the 'stub' left over after they move 287, becomes 14 now.
clinched:
I-64, I-80, I-76 (west), *64s in hampton roads, 225,270,180 (co, wy)

Yes, I believe that's the plan (though I'm not sure if "becomes" is the correct word here, since SH 14 already runs along this road, albeit unsigned).

So what's the northern part of the old road going to be called? CO-14S or something? Or US-287A?

Colorado doesn't really do letter suffixes. If anything, it would be CO 287. However, it will be a very short road, so my guess is that it'll just be a named access road.

The stub from Ted's Place to the dam will likely be turned back to a short county road.  Larimer County plans to add recreational facilities to this reservoir.  Here is a recreational concept master plan on the county website.  According to their map, it looks like a gate house will be located half way between Ted's place and the dam.

Also, on that map earlier in the thread, the stub on the Northern end of the reservoir that meets up with the new 287 will likely be an access road to Ingleside.  I believe the Ingleside quarry will still exist after the reservoir.

That isn't an active quarry. Based on what I saw on Google maps, they are selling down whatever product they have left. My guess is they close it down.

It's worth noting, looking at the design plan that Elm posted a link to upthread, that at the northern end of the realignment the T-intersection ties into Big Ridge Way and not existing US 287.
