The Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal presented an Open House last week on the proposed twinning of TCH 104 between Sutherlands River and Antigonish.

Most attending appeared to be more interested in the 10 kms of completely new highway that will by-pass Marshy Hope. Below are a few photos I captured of the by-pass from the displays

The existing TCH104 through Marshy Hope is quite scenic especially in the fall.....running through a narrow gorge section with a railway on one side and river on the other. It will become Trunk 4 in the future.

The eastern end of the continuous** North American multi-lane highway/freeway network is now at KM179.5 on TCH104.....just beyond the NS245 overpass at Sutherlands River. (**to reach Quebec and Ontario on a multi-lane highway you just have to drive thru the US now until the in A-85 is complete)

Once this new section of twinned TCH104 is complete and hooks into the Antigonish Bypass.....it will push the eastern end to approx KM233 at Taylors Road.

There are disconnected freeway segments east of there at Sydney and in Newfoundland at Corner Brook, Grand Falls and between Whitbourne and St. John's.

The Beginning/End at Sutherlands River (looking west).....

And looking east.......
