Chapel Hill - artsy crosswalks...dangerous or not?

Chapel Hill is making these non-standard Crosswalks for an art project. Is it just me or do these seem dangerous? I know what a crosswalk is because of how they look. I assume there will be signage, but these don't really evoke "crosswalk" to me, and someone else could blast through them. Thoughts?

Most people blast through crosswalks anyways or lurch into them at stop signs and lights.  At minimum they'll probably be noticed just for how abstract they are.

I mean, it's a college town - anyone going down the main streets is going at 25 or 35 or they're bypassing downtown entirely. Having studied there I can tell you the vast majority of students are jaywalking whenever they want anyway. So I don't think it makes a difference

these are pretty common in downtowns throughout the country, i walk on a few every day to and from work.  i don't see how this could be an issue.
