But a good product will trump a brand name, particularly one that has been absent from a lot of these areas.

I'm not so sure about that. People will definitely pass up a good product they know nothing about in favor of a mediocre brand they recognize. The devil you know, and all of that. (Case in point: a mom & pop Italian place versus Olive Garden.)

That being said when I think of the name Acme I think of Wile E. Coyote, so there you have it.

The same can be said of Wawa. If you're not familiar with a brand, you can easily dismiss it.  When many people first hear of 'Wawa', they laugh it off.  But even though it's only in a handful of states, it has such a powerful following that it's "America's Favorite Convenience Store".

Same with Acme.  It's been around way longer than the Coyote & Road Runner.  Once you enter the store though, the entire perception will change, and suddenly you realize it's, well, just a supermarket.

Good riddance. I honestly don't know how they stayed alive for this long. Even the old people are smartening up and shopping elsewhere.

I'm guilty of this too!  :-D

I don't have opinions anymore. All I know is that no one is better than anyone else, and everyone is the best at everything

A&P Will be winding down By Nov 25 2015. Last day of any operations in the stores, that's the end of the entire company.

They have no stores in southern New Jersey anymore.

They use the Super Fresh brand in South Jersey.

Super Fresh left here several years ago.  BTW, all of the Super Fresh stores had been A&P's at one time in the past.  The Pathmarks were the last to close down here.
That would be kinda weird:  When I lived in Brunswick MD 1988-1991, there was an old decepid ACME ans a super fresh.

That's just a "wow".  A&P used to be huge at one time, but mismanaged all to hell.

Super Fresh dates to the 1980s, they had a special union deal. That is seriously the reason why that division existed.
