Milton is a heap of trouble for the Bay Area. If it's crossing waters cooled by Helene and still a Cat 3, that is bad news.

Just because someone from Milton would supercommute to the Bay Area doesn't mean that Milton itself is part of the Bay Area.

Don't confuse the bay area with a bay area!

:spin: Yes in this case we mean Tampa Bay Area.

Not the other two places that call themselves Bay Area like San Francisco Bay Area and Guangdong Province Bay Area in China.

Milton up to Category 5. This isn't going to be good.

Florida 511 map this evening; that looks like a long slow haul on I-75 heading from Naples over to Fort Lauderdale.

Well, at least Milton will not hit the same areas that Helene did (outside the Near Panhandle, that is).

Yes, but

Advisory Number 16
10 PM CDT Tuesday October 08, 2024

STORM SURGE: The combination of storm surge and tide will cause normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by rising waters moving inland from the shoreline. The water could reach the following heights above ground somewhere in the indicated areas if the peak surge occurs at the time of high tide...

Egmont Key, FL to Boca Grande, FL...10-15 ft
Tampa Bay...10-15 ft
Anclote River, FL to Egmont Key, FL...9-13 ft
Boca Grande, FL to Bonita Beach, FL...8-12 ft
Charlotte Harbor...8-12 ft

I highlight those bottom two lines because that's the area that got hammered hardest by Ian just over two years ago (along with Naples just to the south of there, which appears to be just outside the worst of this one).

Milton has apparently shifted slightly south, with Sarasota and SW Florida now in its bullseye.

My dad and stepmom's area still has signs of Ian. This will make it impossible to distinguish.

I'm going to stay at a friend of the family with a stronger house. So, I won't be able to contact anybody here after this message.

If I had a nickel for every Tropicana that was destroyed on October 9, 2024, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

Both Major League Baseball-related, too.

It wouldn't be that awful if Tropicana Field completely collapsed (nobody being hurt obviously).  What an atrocious facility, and indisputably the worst in MLB now that the Oakland Coliseum is out of the picture.  Plus the Rays and local government do have an agreement to build a new ballpark in the next few years on that same property.

It looks like it's really just the fabric roof that got shredded though, kind of like the roof of the Metrodome in Minneapolis succumbed to heavy snow a year or two before they were going to blow that place up anyway.

Here is a preliminary report on Milton related deaths in Florida and expect a higher number once rescue operations come out.

WillWeaverRVA

Between the numerous severe tornadoes (including a possible EF4 in St. Lucie County, which would be the strongest tropical tornado on record if verified) and the insane backside winds associated with the sting jet that formed as Milton started losing tropical characteristics, Milton really did a number on central Florida. A crane collapsed into a building in St. Petersburg.

So far 4 deaths confirmed that's related to Hurricane Milton is reported in St Lucie County.  But then again expect the death tolls to rise statewide.

They didn't dissemble the crane?  Doesn't sound good.
