Hey mods, you can remove this from the news at the top of the forum:
QuoteBefore posting about the Google Maps "U.S. XX in XXXX" state error, please note that it is already common knowledge among board members.

Done.

What the heck is with highway segments simply disappearing from Google Maps??  How does this happen?

A section of recently constructed freeway in Saltillo has apparently vanished:

that looks like there is an interchange there.

was the new interchange in place before the vanishing?

if not, then I suspect that the folks at google are busy replacing the data, and apparently deleted the old interchange before putting in the new one.

Yes, the whole stretch through there was upgraded to a freeway within the last year or so.  It was a fully opened freeway when I drove it in June, and had been long enough for me to be able to watch someone else's YouTube of it in advance of going down there.

But replacing data doesn't explain other examples I've seen where a totally rural stretch of highway simply disappears for a while.  These occurrences make Get directions difficult.

I've run into situations where I load a city block, and I see restaurants pop into view and then disappear. I feel like there are two layers of data getting loaded right now.

It appears as though Oklahoma has a new U.S. highway: US 65, which runs concurrent with US 62 between Kickapoo Casino east of OKC and Newcastle Gaming Center south of OKC.

Very weird.  I just saw a street name at work called Penrith today, and wondered where the name came from.  It was in Arkansas.

Routewitches. These children of the moving road gather strength from travel . . . Rather than controlling the road, routewitches choose to work with it, borrowing its strength and using it to make bargains with entities both living and dead. -- Seanan McGuire, Sparrow Hill Road

The funniest thing about that is - "Is something missing?  Edit in Google Map Maker".

I guess Google Map Maker can now make changes to how the roads are in RL.  Quite an unorthodox solution to all the spam/inaccurate map edits.

Actually the original Penrith came from a place in Cumbria in the UK:

Super Mateo

It looks like the majority of US 52 isn't labeled in northern IL.  The only mentions of it are in Dixon and Bourbonnais.

mukade

It loses its way in Indiana west of Lafayette and stays lost in Illinois. It also disappears from Indianapolis to Cincinnati. Around Indianapolis, it has the wrong routing around I-465, but that is nothing new.

Minor error, but still an error. Ever since ITD finished the Karcher interchange (I-84 at Midland Blvd, Exit 33) in Nampa (been built since late 2006 from what I can tell, almost 6 years), SH-55 has been rerouted from Northside/Nampa Blvd and Nampa-Caldwell Blvd to the much more direct access on Midland. Google Maps still shows the old alignment. https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=43.598792,-116.585712&spn=0.03456,0.078964&t=m&z=14

That makes sense.  Many of the street names in that area of Arkansas come from Britain.

This is becoming the next "Route X in Y state that's really in Z state" error.
Mileage-based exit numbering implies the existence of mileage-cringe exit numbering.

If this counts, apparently, Street View no longer recognizes Ohio or Alaska  :pan:, as seen in this example (look in the upper left, specifically in the box with "Interstate 280"): http://goo.gl/maps/jyckm

Still better than Apple.  Wouldn't want the bridge to melt on top of you.
