Signs on State-Maintained Roads in Your State That Need Repairs

These ones don't technically need repairs, as looking at all the available images from Google Maps for each area, it doesn't look like the signs were ever installed to begin with for some reason, but I will go ahead and mention them.

On Interstate 90 eastbound, there is no exit sign at the gore point for Exit 110, the exit for I-82 eastbound, despite there being one for the westbound side.

Eastbound: https://maps.app.goo.gl/d1NPxYXa5Fncd3mU9
Westbound: https://maps.app.goo.gl/6e7fhU4VoUrsrRKt6

Both sides do have the whatchacallit saying the exit is right there.

Eastbound: https://maps.app.goo.gl/qeGggAKWBGF9Eft3A
Westbound: https://maps.app.goo.gl/PtZSe4b1TgCTNksSA

On US Route 2 in both directions, at the Stevens Pass summit, which also serves as the line for Chelan and King Counties, there are no "Entering King County" and "Entering Chelan County" signs for westbound and eastbound, respectively.

Looking westbound: https://maps.app.goo.gl/WryM3QWBRFX7GPX27
Looking eastbound: https://maps.app.goo.gl/GARNArYS37kzhWQ89

On Washington State Route 20 in both directions:
There are no "Entering Chelan County" and "Entering Okanogan County" signs for westbound and eastbound, respectively.
There are no "Entering Skagit County" and "Entering Chelan County" signs for westbound and eastbound, respectively.
There are no "Entering Whatcom County" and "Entering Skagit County" signs for westbound and eastbound, respectively.

For that last one, WA 20 actually enters both Skagit and Whatcom Counties two times, once before or after milepost 117, depending on which direction you're heading, and once before or after milepost 146, depending on which direction you're heading. There are no county line signs for Whatcom/Skagit at the county border near milepost 146. The other county border does have signs.

On US Route 12 westbound, at the Vaugn Hubbard Bridge, there is no "Entering Franklin County" sign. They could just have a post with the county line sign and the already-existing Pasco sign here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/uFhwrPCgyGTjB3nz9

On Interstate 182, US Route 395, and Washington State Route 397, there are no "Entering Benton County" and "Entering Franklin County" signs for westbound and eastbound, respectively, and for southbound and northbound, respectively. I'm just going to share an overall map thing for this one showing the border: https://maps.app.goo.gl/N3XcQwwryUX72cg19

On Interstate 82 in both directions, there are no milepost 24 posts installed. Mile 24 is on the Fred G. Redmon Memorial Bridge.

As I understand it, unless absolutely necessary, DOTs don't like installing signs on bridges. That's why what I've seen WSDOT do with signs like county line signs, for example, is they'll either install the signs both on one side of a bridge, such as at the border for Whitman and Garfield Counties on WA 127, or they'll install the signs before the bridge for each respective side. The second one is more common. For example, on US Route 97 northbound, the "Entering Chelan County" sign is before crossing the Beebe Bridge, respectively. Likewise, for the "Entering Douglas County" sign, it is before crossing the Beebe Bridge on US Route 97 southbound. The county border for these counties, and many other counties, is technically in the middle of the bridge. In the case for mile 24, they could install mile marker 24s to the already-existing sign posts being used for the Fred G. Redmon Bridge signs before the bridge in both directions.

On Washington State Route 261 in both directions, at the Lyons Ferry Bridge, there are no county lines installed for Franklin and Columbia Counties. Northbound and southbound, respectively: https://maps.app.goo.gl/b7vHpmA1XhMDXioC8

When I went to Everett yesterday, I took the North Cascades on the way there, and I was surprised to see county line signs at this area were installed sometime after I went to Snohomish that way in May. Now it just leaves the two other areas I mentioned in my post.

I'm starting to think a guardrail should be installed on this exit to protect the signs, like in some other areas, since people clearly do not know how to negotiate this simple exit. I'm not exactly sure when it happened, but it was sometime within the last week.

Saw this gem NB on I-39/US 51 near 39's southern terminus just north of Normal

https://maps.app.goo.gl/riRXSHB1bAiY5h6g7?g_st=ic

Something is missing on the (viewing) left side of the sign. I'm assuming some type of sheeting came loose and fell off, or some graffiti was covered up with green-out is also possible

The streetview is 6 months old, so it has been that way awhile

Saw it taking US 51 up to Northern IL for some holiday travel

Actually, it looks like the sign is just a full-face greenout (that partially fell away) over what used to be a button copy sign—look closely and you can see the shadowing from where "Bl" used to be on the layer below!

Repaired!

And sometime within the last week or so, somebody crashed into this same exact chevron sign again, only this time it was so bad that it ripped the foundation/base for the telespar post out of the ground! (I circled it in red in the second photo.) Although I imagine it might be able to be jackknifed back into the ground, unless it's damaged. People seriously need to learn how to drive and navigate exits with sharp curves, such as this one or I-90 eastbound Exit 109, where I said earlier here that I think they should install a guardrail there. Maybe the same should be done for this exit.

Elsewhere in Washington, on Interstate 90 eastbound, just past milepost 40, something happened that caused the Interstate 90 shield to fall off this post and the post to lean. I couldn't see the shield anywhere.

Both of these are repaired. Unfortunately, two other signs now need repairs. I'll get photos soon, but...

On Washington State Route 821 between mileposts 4 and 5, there's a single post that has both county line signs for Yakima and Kittitas Counties, alongside cautionary open range signs, The Kittitas County sign fell of the post. Here it is earlier in the summer: https://maps.app.goo.gl/JEqZCEQEjCMER76r7 Hoping it just fell on the ground and not into the river. Not quite sure how recently this happened, but before today, I last drove through there the night of November 30, and it was still there then, so it was sometime after that.

On Interstate 82 eastbound, someone crashed into the exit gore point sign for Exit 33B. Here it is earlier in the summer: https://maps.app.goo.gl/gqj3Bt5X7QuHMvmYA

This one looks to have just happened today, as there was a sheriff leaving when I passed by this morning. And the roads weren't even bad. People just need to learn how to drive.

FYI, guiderail usage should be minimized for a few reasons:
1) a guiderail is a hazard itself and will damage a vehicle that strikes it
2) cost of installation and maintenance

Guiderails are typically used to block a hazard that would be worse to hit than the guiderail itself. Based on the photos, it looks like the area beyond the ramp is flat and clear, in which case it's safer to let the errant vehicle go off road and slow down (this area is called a "clear zone", meaning it's clear of hazards). It's also important to consider the expected angle of impact on a guiderail. For a loop ramp like this, its more likely the vehicle would hit the guiderail at a higher angle (more direct), which makes for a harsher impact. I would also say replacing that sign is much cheaper than repairing a guiderail.

(hopefully this doesn't come across as condescending, just thought it would be an interesting discussion)

Normally, when it comes to that, people only steal the actual mileposts 69 because "har har, funny," hence why WSDOT has no mileposts for that number, has a blank milepost, or sometimes has milepost 68.9, such as on WA 26. This is the first I've heard of a person or people stealing completely unrelated mileposts that, when combined, make that number. Regardless, these people are just immature idiots.

I didn't get a photo because I saw it heading westbound, but on Interstate 82 eastbound at Exit 69, the Exit 69 sign itself at the gore point is missing, though both of the posts are still standing. Here's when it was still there: https://maps.app.goo.gl/cNgrSKwePczxXaLA8 I suspect it could be related to the above. It's possible whoever the culprit is was stopped and arrested at this point and was prevented from doing further damage. The blank mileposts in both directions for milepost 69 also appeared to be missing, but I may have just missed them. I don't know why anyone would want to steal those since they're blank. Next time I go through there eastbound I'll get a photo of the posts and have a closer look.

You know, considering what they do for mileposts to deter vandals, I'm surprised that for this exit they didn't just have an unnumbered exit. Or just make it Exit 68 or Exit 70.

To be fair, I'd imagine a gore point sign or any kind of exit sign would be a lot harder to steal than a milepost.
