Do you also turn down the radio when looking for a parking spot?

That would involve having the radio on to start with, so no.  :sombrero:

Driving in silence? Weird. Peaceful.

Well to be fair, "weird" is the whole entire point of this thread, but I still FTFY just because.

Also bluetooth exists for music streaming.

Well, when I said radio, I didn't mean AM/FM specifically. Do you turn down your music/podcast/Twitch Stream/YouTube Video/Webinar/Zoom Meeting when parking?  :)

Though it's true that I don't listen to the radio, the serious answer is that I'm much more apt to turn off anything I might be listening to, rather than turning it down.

When I'm in a parking lot, especially a crowded one, I think it's important to be on high alert, as free of distractions as possible, and as least disruptive to others as possible, and not having anything blaring in the car helps accomplish all of those things.

Interesting... I do it the opposite, especially with burgers, because I tend to have the meat get pushed out if I do the reverse.

Per this: I also don't listen to music while driving. I find it too distracting, which isn't a good thing while driving. This may be because I'm still a new driver, so driving hasn't quite become second-nature. I listen to music a lot, especially when doing other tasks, such as browsing the forum, but driving just isn't one of them yet.

Staying with driving, I have to lock my car doors twice and give the handle a jiggle every time I park. I forgot to lock 'em up one time (luckily, nobody tried to steal anything), so I guess it's an impeding thought every time now.

I usually drive in silence if I'm outside the range of my radio presets, although I've been known to connect my phone to listen to the All Access Star Trek podcast or Throwback 2K on Sunday mornings (and even the Fly Morning Rush on a Friday morning once).  I really should fix my aux port at some point; part of the cable broke off and is stuck in there.

I jiggle the handle too, but it's a habit from my days working on slot machines (some of which have locking mechanisms that look like they're locked but they're not really).

Although I am deaf, I don't like to have the radio on in a car while driving--I can feel it reverberate through the trim and it overlaps with the vibrations from the engine, tires, and suspension in a way that makes me feel the car is malfunctioning.

Heh. As to the first point, I remember when I took a behind-the-wheel class when I was 15 years old the instructor specifically turned on the radio to a music station. He said we would all certainly be listening to the radio or to tapes while we were driving, so we might as well get used to that from the start. (Yes, tapes. It was the late 1980s.)

Regarding the second point, I used to check the locks, but using a remote to lock the doors eliminated that. I do listen for the beep that confirms the doors locked, though. (On my wife's TLX, if you tug on the handle, the doors will unlock.)

My wife and I can drive 700 miles and barely say anything to each other at all, putting music on only to keep us awake if the driver is getting drowsy.  We're perfectly content to just drive down the highway in near-silence for hours.  It's always been like that for us, and drives of 500+ miles have been part of our relationship since we first met more than twenty years ago.

But I do realize that many people find that really odd.  When we've driven to Mexico for church mission trips, for example, occasionally the other passenger(s) riding in our vehicle have expressed how weird it is to just drive in near-silence.

Usually my wife and I will talk for a while, then she falls asleep.

On the few trips we've done here in Nevada, she's usually asleep for the most scenic part of the drive and then we get back to Las Vegas and she wonders why I made such a big deal about going.

We're at the stage now where it depends on how much we have to talk about. Some days, we might say very little over 2-3 hours, other times, we're running our mouths. And that's the ways things have been since we've met.

The kids are kind of the same way; they sort of drive a lot of the conversation in the car as they've become older. Probably not much to say over a 15-30 minute drive but usually a little time and distance lubricates conversation.
